Is Bettman getting greedy?

08:22 AM ET 11.13 | Not even those on Gary Bettman's side are exactly sure what they're fighting for anymore. Three league executives contacted Monday all gave the same general answer when we asked why [Bettman] should care how the players' money gets split up, as long as he gets them to 50-50 with the players. To a man, the three voices echoed the same sentiment (and we paraphrase): "Get rid of the back-diving contracts, because those work against the spirit of the cap. After that, player contracting rights matter very little to me." ... Bettman wants half the pie for his owners, but also wants to tell the players what kind of ice cream to put on their half. Even people who work with the teams don't see the wisdom in losing games over that, we're starting to learn.

Protecting owners and GM's from themselves again. Like a bunch of 5 year olds.

Nobody said they weren't Roamer.

But they've all been greedy right from the beginning.

I told my family to buy me the new book that comes out around Christmas time this year by Gary Bettman, "Ruining a Professional Sports League 101."

Let's all cooperate so everyone can be happy. OK? Let's have $15 beers, $250 nosebleed seats, games only on pay TV, $75 parking spaces, $30 programs, $12 hot dogs and $8 cokes........and that's only for October and November games........prices go up each ,month starting with December and double for each playoff round. Last year I went to some games where folks earning $180,000 a year were in my section. C'mon........who wants to sit next to trash like that?

NHLPA is willing and ready to negotiate. Buttgoblin isnt; yet he has owners on his sign showing cracks in their loyalty.

Dont underestimate Fehr for a moment. In the end, when Bettman gets fired, you will be thanking Fehr for exposing his underside, lack of negotiating skills, and his dearth of labor relations skills.

If you think for one moment, the NHLPA and Fehr, dont have a second motive (outside of negotiating a new CBA which is right for the players); which is to get Buttgoblin fired; then you need to read more.

Exactly. Considering that the players have given all the concessions to date and Bettman is saying he won't agree to any deal that doesn't give him everything he wants, it's obvious where the problem lies here. Greed pervades everything, but Bettman has raised it to ridiculous levels.

Nobody comes out of this mess unscathed, but if you put Bettman up on pedestal, where he can be seen by all, he is by far... the slimiest in this affair.

C'mon man, Bettman isn't getting fired, his bosses just resigned him and gave him a raise. there may be the odd owner who's against what he's doing, but the majority want what he's doing, or else he'd be negotiating more. We villify Bettman for ruining the game but facts are its the owners who tell him what they want and he's just the frontman. NHLPA isn't negotiating, they keep throwing the same proposal at the owners as they have from day 1 essentially. No way the owners aka BILLIONAIRES and the bosses are going to let their employess tell them what to do.

The NHL is over. Gary Bettman has killed professional hockey in America.
