09:27 AM ET 11.13 | One of NASCAR's top racers was involved in one of the Sprint Cup Series' ugliest displays this past weekend at Phoenix International Raceway. Jeff Gordon intentionally wrecked Clint Bowyer in the final laps and a brawl followed when Gordon made his way to the pit area. In the fallout from the ugly incident, Gordon has been docked 25 Sprint Cup points and has been fined $100,000. Gordon has also been placed on probation until Dec. 31. NASCAR issued a statement on the penalties issued. "There's no doubt that a unique set of circumstances combined with a championship battle on the line resulted in raw emotions coming into play," Robin Pemberton, NASCAR's vice-president of competition, said. "We consider the penalties appropriate and those involved understand our decision and we expect them to abide by them." The crew chiefs of Gordon and Bowyer were also punished following the brawl.

Agreed, the only question I have is WHAT could he do after this weekends race?
I mean he is on that Nascar double triple probation until New Years Eve. Doubt anyone knows what that really means they just seem to make up this junk. The fight did get some attention though.

This IS the biggest Story in Nascar. You think the #2 means anything...Wrong!
Gordon stepped outside of the script, and they love it!

Not like there are TOO many races each year, nah these guys tempers can handle it, right?
I wouldn't even want to count the total laps, let alone hours in a car racing (intensely, unless of course your Jeff Burton or a few others just out for a drive every week with no intention of winning.). The idea hurts my brain. I only drive to L.A. 2 or 3 times a year and that is 280 miles, I am done when I get over that trip and I stop at In Out get a burger stretch the legs and use the restroom.

Gordon did what he needed to do. Bowyer has been a punk all year. Remember when Clint bumped Johnson into Gordon earlier in the year? Also bumped Gordon twice in the last race. Nascar veteran drivers remember these things and should retaliate.
Ask Kyle about it. A couple years ago he got his after bumping his way into the chase. He is now becoming a better driver knowing when to use tactics and when not to.

kyle hasn't figured anything out. And the only reason he changed his ways for a short time is because Richard Childress took him out to the woodshed.

Go Gordon! For the first time in years I felt I was watching some real racing. Cale, Bobby, Donnie and Sr are smiling.

What a moronic post - coming from you no big surprise... even when he be comes a 'has been' (maybe in another 10 years), still beats a never-was and never-will-be like your driver....

It is ironic that anyone mentionning how Bowyer was bumping on Gordon (all true), never happens to mention that Gordon was doing the same thing....I don't have an actual tally but I would guess that it would be fairly even.......
Gordon with his much higher success totals does not have a special pass to behave like he did.....one heated bumpy moment on the track is no where near that same as waiting to drive into someone.
But I have to admit that when Carl did it to Brad and when Kyle & Harvick were doing it and all the others that had big feuds, it made those races 100 times more interesting.

I have a new respect for Gordon; I always thought he could have been a leader but didn't have the stomach for it, but darn it if he doesn't actually get mad - I love it!!! I am tired of this idea that the person starting it gets off, and the person finishing it gets fined. I am old school though, if you hit Cale, he puts you in the wall, and you don't go crying to Mom... Not real sure I like this "new and improved" NASCAR 1 - boring, 2 - in no way shape or form is NASCAR, what Nation cars are they modeled off of now?

Wouldn't it be interesting if a number of drivers were to present NASCAR with blank checks -- before the RACE!!?? Then we could get Michael Buffer to say "Drivers -- start your engines and bend the fenders" It goes without saying, this is the last race of the year and it will be "what goes around, comes around" ... HEEHAW!!!
