Keelan Johnson of Mesa High School switched his commitment from Nebraska to Arizona State as the rush is on for the ASU's final few football scholarships. Johnson, 6-foot, 195 pounds, committed early to Nebraska before Bill Callahan was fired and replaced as coach by Bo Pelini.

I think he'd be better off sticking with the Huskers. Nebraska is a perennial program and Pelini will have them back in no time.
Odd that they don't even mention what position he plays.

They mention he's a RB/DB and possible WR.

Report Offensive CommentSoonergirl: I agree with you. I am an LSU fan and I think Pelini will turn things around at Nebraska. For one thing Defense wins Championships and Bo can bring that first then he will need a good Offensive Coord to take them on up.

Report Offensive CommentYes, coiff, but you'd think SI would include that in their summary.

Report Offensive CommentStay with ASU, kid, Erickson will see that you get paid top dollar while you're there.

Report Offensive CommentEyes....$ isn't everything and especially at this age. He'd be better off with Nebraska...Pelini would make sure he got his playing experience and get an education then get top recruited with NFL. His loss..........

Report Offensive CommentSun Devils are going to get alot of recruits having the young Mr. Jake Elway the next few years.
Hammered_everynight | 01/21/08, 01:26 PM
Report Offensive CommentTrojan Fans, let's just admit that Norm was unappreciated at SC. Lane Kiffin & Steve Sarkisian take credit for his blueprint, yet were unable to tweak the offense's intricacies to fit a shorter QB (Booty). Lane & Steve were also trying too hard to win Leinart a second Heisman ( If you don't believe, check out the '05 USC vs. ASU game). Heck, SC's coaches make too many promises and try to play too many guys (RB, for example). Look at SC's rushing stats and you'll understand what I mean. Politics are preventing the best guys from playing.

Report Offensive CommentSo what. Loyalty is a quality worth having. Also, he is too small for College Division I play. I would take a Walk-on anyday over a minimal player in stature. Ciao Baby.

Report Offensive CommentI like Bo Pelini and wish him the best of luck but u have to look at it from the recruits standpoint... ASU is a program on the rise and Nebraska has fallen so far from dominance... plus the kid is from arizona so that most likely added to his decision

Report Offensive CommentKid is making a mistake. Stick with the Huskers.

Report Offensive CommentHuskers are in the dumps. Devils are on the way up. Kid lives about 5 miles from Sun Devil Stadium. No brainer.

Report Offensive CommentI bet the Huskers win the B12 north during this kid's college tenure. I wouldn't overlook Nebraska. But I do respect this kid's decision to stay close to home.
SoonerGirl | 01/21/08, 09:06 PM
Report Offensive CommentHe'd start at both schools but AZ St. is winning now and thats what the kid wants he has every right to go where he wants

Report Offensive CommentDevils have a great tradition. They've been down for awhile, but sometime watch the 1976 (or so) Fiesta Bowl when the Sun Devils under Frank Kush CRUSHED the No. 1-ish Huskers. It was one of the greatest hitting football games I've ever seen. This program isn't new to winning, boys and girls.

Report Offensive CommentAnd Erickson is a great coach.
localboy54 | 01/22/08, 12:41 AM
Report Offensive CommentLocalboy, you're close: It was teh 1975 Fiesta, NU was #9, and after leading 14-6, the Huskers lost it on a field goal with 2 minutes left. Other than that, you're spot on, mate.

Report Offensive CommentNebraska had a lot of talent last year, especially on offense. What they need is MENTAL toughness. That will be back this year. This kid was probably short on that for the Black shirts. He probably made the best choice.
