Why Heat-Sonics deal won't work
With coach Pat Riley vowing to decrease the team's luxury-tax burden, the Heat continues to be mentioned in potential deals as the Feb. 21 trade deadline nears. But a proposed deal with the Sonics -- who would send forward Wally Szczerbiak and point guard Earl Watson to Miami for Ricky Davis, Jason Williams and Dorell Wright -- doesn't seem to have much traction. The deal would fail to relieve Miami of any salary this season, and also would limit its flexibility, with Szczerbiak owed $13 million next season and Watson owed roughly $13 million over the next two.

The deal would fail to relieve Miami of any salary this season, and also would limit its flexibility, with Szczerbiak owed $13 million next season and Watson owed roughly $13 million over the next two. Not to mention the fact that the Heat would not have improved. If this deal doesn't make the team any better, it is a waste if time. A much better deal would be a move for Ben Gordon. I still feel that Davis and Williams can be assetts, but Riley has tried to get rid of Williams since before the season started.

If I didn't know any better I would think the Heat record was better than the Knicks. The Heat doesn't have many tradable guys. Stay with Riley he needs to be gone.
They better get some help before Wade's contract is up and he bails.

The problem with Miami is that even with their two star players doing well in a game, they can still lose because the rest of the team seems to be disheartened beyond repair. Perhaps this trade won't relieve the Heat from the salary pressure, but a nice change of air can do real good for this team right now.
