Nets-Pacers deal falls apart

Yes, the Nets and Pacers discussed a deal involving Jermaine O'Neal and Vince Carter as the principals. But one source familiar with the talks - he called them "exploratory" - insisted it's a "moot point" at present because O'Neal is injured (out two weeks with a left knee bone bruise) and his salary would send the Nets over the luxury tax threshhold.

They are both all-starts that have both been slipping and a change would be good for both players. As a huge pacer fan it doesnt sound all that bad of a deal.

one cry baby for another... altho for the nets it sounds good as they get that interior scorer they need

O'Neal is a bum. I'm so glad he is gone after this year.

January 21, 2008  11:33 AM ET

I would only move O'Neal for a draft pick. But who wants to take his contract?

January 21, 2008  11:37 AM ET

Call Isiah. But then again. This guy is not overweight and is a PF/C, so probably won't happen.

Jermaine O'Neal is an injury waiting to happen. i wouldn't want to wish that on my worst enemy (to trade for this bum).

January 21, 2008  03:25 PM ET

A much better deal for the Pacers than the Nets.

January 21, 2008  04:42 PM ET

oneal season may be done so this aint gonna happen

January 21, 2008  06:23 PM ET

Are they talking about the deal falling apart, or JO and VC falling apart? Hard to tell...

January 21, 2008  06:41 PM ET

A trade between two mediocre teams. Can Vince really shine without the stellar leadership of Jason Kidd? Surely if that was the case, then Vince would not have been a whiner with his tenure as the Raptor's franchise player...
Will the injury-prone J.O. ever play for the whole season?

January 21, 2008  07:53 PM ET

Two overpaid, crybaby A_ _ holes!

January 21, 2008  09:54 PM ET

How far these two have fallen. Carter is now known as a whiner and a quitter - justice for what he did to the Raptors not long ago, flat out quit on them. O'Neill is a force with a broken down body. A really bad shoulder problem coupled with knee problems spells he won't ever be the dominant big man he was for a short time.

Trading one with a heart but without the legs for someone with legs but without a heart.

Is there winner?

January 22, 2008  05:00 AM ET

I now see Vince Carter change from the next Jordan to just another novelty item.

Basically a highlight reel feature during weekly shows and on youtube.
He should join the slam dunk contest so he may be relevant again.

If you truly love basketball and like competitors,
You tend to forget Kobe's bad side when you compare him with Vince.

And this benefits who? One sour apple for another,

How many teams have talked to Indiana about O'Neal in the past two years?? The guy is broken down and his ridiculous contract will keep him in a Pacer jersey. And speaking of Indiana, weren't they a respectable franchise at one point?? Larry legend, thanks for taking Dunleavy & Murphy in return for Stephen Jack & Al Harrington. Very nice move French Lick boy.
