Report: Smith seeking second opinion

08:02 AM ET 11.14 | After suffering a concussion on Sunday, San Francisco quarterback Alex Smith has reason to want to get back on the field. And while it's unclear whether he'll be cleared by an independent neurologist to return to action on Monday night against the Bears, a league source tells PFT that Smith is seeking a second opinion. It's unclear what impact, if any, a second opinion would have on the assessment of an independent neurologist. Given the somewhat subjective nature of the ultimate assessment of a guy's symptoms, however, a second opinion that points toward a mild concussion or no concussion at all could influence the independent neurologist's assessments. ... If Smith doesn't play and if Colin Kaepernick plays well on a national stage, Alex Smith could be the sports world's next Wally Pipp.

Yes, he asked both doctors, who were standing right in front of him. He also wondered why they looked like twins.

I'm going out on a limb here and make a bold prediction.

Colin Kaepernick ain't that good.

He's probably concerned he'll lose his starting job to Kaepernick, if he doesn't take the field Mon night.

It could be worse. Suppose Harbaugh had to choose between Sanchez and Tebow.

There in San Francisco the second opinion may require a prostate exam.

I have be honest.....had to google Wally Pipp. Double talk from Pro Football Talk. All the concern there is for concussions this year, then print about the pressures of missing a game. I don't get it, but I guees that's the point.....fodder for FN.

You'll be surprised... Kaepernick is going to keep the starting job if he starts this week and everyone will see a QB take advantage of the Moss signing by actually throwing catchable deep balls..
