08:13 AM ET 11.14 | Atlanta may have found a target in its hunt for an outfield bat. [The Braves] have interest in signing free-agent outfielder Cody Ross, according to a major-league source. With Torii Hunter likely choosing between the Rangers and Tigers, the Braves are pursuing another of the top right-handed bats on the market. Ross posted an .807 OPS with 22 home runs in 130 games with the Boston Red Sox last season. Ross has a good relationship with Atlanta manager Fredi Gonzalez, dating back to their time together with the Marlins. The Braves covet Ross' ability to hit left-handed pitching -- a 1.010 OPS this year -- particularly coming off a season in which they went just 30-31 against southpaw starters.

The Red Sox just took David Ross from Atlanta, would be kinda strange if Atlanta takes Cody Ross... one Ross for another

If I am the Braves I would be more concern about signing Bourn than Ross.

They better be more concerned about signing a catcher to fill in while McCann is out. This is a huge hole that has to be filled.
Bourne is probably gone. The Braves do not have a good history with his agent, Scott Boras. This is not all bad. His defense is great but he strikes out too much for a leadoff hitter. And he really struggles with quality breaking pitches.
If Cody Ross can fill the left field slot and let Prado shift to third base then that's not bad deal. Hopefully they can find a quality CF solution. One thing Bourne definitely did do was provide a welcome respite to the lean years in CF after Andruw Jones ate himself out of Atlanta.

If Atlanta can't sign Cody, they are going to take a run at David Schwimmer.

I like Ross. I would be fine with bringing Cody in. I am disappointed (some would say saddened) by David's departure.

I wonder if the Braves were caught somewhat with their pants down on that one?

wiseup: I would not be surprised if Cincinnati made a bid on Cody Ross if they don"t sign Ludwick. Cody Ross was a Red for a very short time. The reds aquired him long enough to trade him.
