08:14 AM ET 11.14 | How close did Boston come to being MLB's blockbuster headline? Shortly after news broke Tuesday that the Blue Jays and Marlins were on the verge of a megadeal, a major league source confirmed the Red Sox had been discussing a smaller deal -- albeit with some of the same players -- with the Marlins. The Sox, according to the source, were working on bringing All-Star shortstop Jose Reyes and righthander Josh Johnson, a player the team has long coveted, to Boston. It's not known what the Sox were offering, but it certainly involved some of their top prospects. ... Reyes is an exciting player who should mix well with sluggers Jose Bautista and Edwin Encarnacion. Meanwhile, the Red Sox have signed backup catcher David Ross.

Sad. Even Jeffrey Loria doesn't want to do business with a team that employs John Farrell.

When Josh Johnson and Jose Reyas spend more time on the DL than on the field, this won't look so good for the Jays.

The Jays never wanted to keep Farrell. Not really sure what all the crying is about?

Didn't want him here at all. Just the way he was in the media before what we all knew was going to happen finally happened. The "I'm the Jays manager and i'm happy and i'm staying" BS just 3 days before hearing he was traded for a box of chicken mcnuggets.

Get one over? The Blue Jays just acquired a handful of crusty, old, ineffective or fragile (not to mention "expensive") players.
I'm not a Sox or Blue Jays fan. I'd say that the Red Sox got the better end of this deal because they weren't involved.

What do you expect him to say?
"The Blue Jays are a joke. They've got enough chance of winning the AL East as the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim do. I only took this gig because I wanted the paycheck and I hope that dopey Greek clown up there in the front office figures out a way to trade me to a baseball team."
You guys sound like a bunch of jilted lovers.

Yes. They would have been jumping back into the same hole that the Dodgers had so graciously pulled them out of last August.
