Stanford seeks to batter Oregon QB

08:19 AM ET 11.14 | After watching hours of Oregon video over the past few days, David Shaw knows it's unlikely the Ducks can be stopped in their tracks. [The Cardinal] somehow has to figure out a way to get some consistent licks on redshirt freshman quarterback Marcus Mariota and remind him that he's in a football game and not a track meet. Few believe 14th-ranked Stanford has the goods to do it. ... Shaw said it's one of the imperatives to get hits on Oregon's quarterback to achieve the slowdown objective. "It's part of the game, and it goes back to the old Al Davis line -- the quarterback must go down and he must go down hard," the coach said. "We have to get hits on him when we get the chance."

True...Stanford will batter where he WAS, not where he IS...unless I missed sumpin' and Stanford is known for D-Line speed now.

Can't say this in the NFL cuz someone might get hurt....

They tried this on us, Stanford knocked out our starting QB Golson with a head to head cheap shot. It almost worked but in the end our D stood tall.

Three-step drop and the ball's gone. Not possible unless a late hit is the strategy.

Quick as his steps are he could take a 10 step drop ans still scorch em

He should call Brandon Spikes for eye-gouging advice, if he really wants results.
