Source: Alex Smith on track to play this week

05:25 PM ET 11.14 | The status of San Francisco 49ers starting quarterback Alex Smith is in question because of a concussion suffered last week. While many are wondering whether Smith or Colin Kaepernick will get the start for the 49ers on Monday night, a source close to the situation says that Smith is on track to play against the Bears. Smith has been performing well and is expected to pass concussion tests before being cleared by an independent neurologist later this week. If all goes as planned, the 49ers will be taking the field against the Bears on the NFL's center stage Monday with their starting quarterback under center.
