Wallace good fit for Lakers?

Though no one among the Bulls is going to admit it, the beginning of the end for Ben Wallace probably came Saturday night. It was against the Pistons with Joakim Noah taking all the minutes down the stretch as the ball-deflecting, shot-blocking, offensive-rebounding, bad-free-throw-shooting, bad-hair guy. The notion is Wallace's contract, with two seasons after this totaling $28.5 million, is unmovable. Wallace makes sense for the Lakers with Andrew Bynum's injury, and they can give the Bulls enough to make sense of a deal. You take Kwame Brown's expiring contact of $9 million and add Vladimir Radmanovic at $5.6 million and it's a deal. The Bulls wouldn't want to take on Radmanovic's deal, which goes through 2010-11, but it's much cheaper than Wallace and may be the best way to get out from under his deal.

The fact that no one else has commented speaks volumes in itself......$28.5 million over the next 2 seasons for a guy that is sitting on the bench behind a rookie that was college this time last year!

If the Lakers or any other team offered the water boy, the towel boy and a player to be named later...way later..... the Bulls should jump on it just to get this embarrassment in judgment off of their books and out of their sight!

Nuff said!

Big Ben could use a change of scenery, Chicago was never a fit for him so the best thing is to move him to...well anywhere but Illinois.

Thats why you don't give a guy that contract when he is getting older and when his talent comes from athletic ability and energy...

Like most moves (besides Darko) Joe D comes out of this looking good once again.

As a bulls fan I would love for the bulls to make this trade because it free's up money for us to make a run at elton brand when free agency hits and still have some money to resign luol deng and with the way we are playing we'll have a lottery pick to find another guard to replace gordon ( who needs to be dealt b4 he walks and we get nothing in return)

January 21, 2008  08:51 AM ET

The jury is still out on Darko, but in this case, The Bulls would b wise to take this deal..Radmoanovic could actually help this team while, Kwame is...uh, well, he is Kwame so you have to take the good with the bad, but his contract does expire next year...Right now, I think this should serve a notice for all teams going after plaers whose game is built around energy and athleticism (I.e. Marion)

Wallace brings defense and rebounding--2 much needed commodities to the Lakers. He doesn't require the ball, which doesn't take shots away from anyone else. There is really no downside for the Lakers. Kwame Brown however, will make the Bulls miss him almost immediately.

January 21, 2008  09:10 AM ET

Well, he used to bring D and rebounding. I think the Lakers would be crazy to make this trade. All Wallace is now is a name who USED to be good. Why would the Lakers want to take on such a huge contract when they know Bynum will be back in 2 months?

January 21, 2008  09:39 AM ET

if you can trade him get some value for him asap a trade sounds good

January 21, 2008  09:43 AM ET

as a bulls fan it sounds ok. the only thing is i HATE kwame and hope he gets cut or traded soon as we pick him up. talk about a cancer in the locker room....this guy is just that.

January 21, 2008  09:46 AM ET

Wallace isn't a player to build your team around, but he was certainly a difference maker in Detroit because he wasn't needed to score. He was a part of a team. Chicago is a team that needs an inside presence on the offensive end of the floor. They can't afford the missed opportunities from the free-throw line. Wallace's role is different in Chicago--one that his game isn't suited for.

The Lakers would be dumb to make this trade.. We're going to have money freed up after this season to make a nice addition..

i guess Wallace would replace Shaqs bad free throw shooting

Wallace - Brown, Rad trade does make sense on paper, but when it's extended to the court, there are a couple of issues that need to be resolved in order for the deal to make sense for both Bulls and Lakers.
Bulls: Even though Wallace is not a starter, you cannot expect Noah to be consistently improving. Through his soph year he is going to have lapses and Wallace can fit those holes rather nicely. When Bulls get brown and rad, they are going to put heavy pressure on Noah, and significantly increase the rookie's ego. Personally that is a concern to me because I am not too impressed with his relationship with the rest of the team. Surely after Brown's contract expires they get a shot at getting a hot-shot free-agent, but I think Bulls have enough talent as it is. Do they want to add more talented but proud players to their already internally dysfuctional but individually gifted team?
Lakers: Surely Wallace can fill in the gap left by the absence of the upcoming star Bynum, but after Bynum returns, Lakers will be paying what Bulls are paying Wallace right now to a bench player. Surely 2 months is a long time to be separated from your starting center, but as long as Lakers endure 2 months without taking a desperate measure for Wallace, they have a good shot of getting a great piece in the upcoming free-agent season. Lakers don't need to take antibiotics every time they feel dizzy.

Ben may have a few years still in the tank and could give Kobe the presence he needs.. not sure if the overall trade is good.

All I can say is "Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!" The Bulls overpaid him, and his career is on the decline. Wallace should've never betrayed Detroit! He was the face of the Pistons, and like everywhere else, he's gone unappreciated in Chicago. Wallace needs to do the only thing that can save his career, and come back to Detroit ASAP.
