Rib injury jeopardizing Big Ben's season?

08:05 AM ET 11.15 | Ben Roethlisberger, accustomed to a Wednesday crowd at his locker, had twice the attendance this time around. Roethlisberger has a sprain to his right sternoclavicular joint that connects the breastbone to the collarbone. But that's not the worst of it. Worse is that mysterious rib injury that was previously reported by the Post-Gazette but unmentioned by the Steelers until Roethlisberger brought it up Wednesday. He called it a "dislocation of the first rib." "That's the scary part because I guess if it goes in the wrong direction it can puncture the aorta." ... Because of the danger, Roethlisberger said he probably cannot play until the rib heals, and he's not sure how long that will take, but he does not think it will end his season.

This will be a true test of character for the Steelers.

It'll be interesting to see them play the Ravens twice with Leftwich at QB. The Steelers have that running game going, though, and it doesn't look the Ravens will be able to stop it.

The team needs to play like they did against the Giants, and pretend the Chiefs game was a bad dream.

So... the question is - Can the Steelers defense handle the Ravens offense?

If that's the deciding factor, it'll be a split series with the home team winning each game. Flacco doesn't travel well.

How about jeopardizing his LIFE? Take a seat and let it heal, Bro.

Well everone was saying the Steelers D was getting old in the beginning of the year , I think as a whole they are starting to show some rust & wear in all areas.

The Raven D is looking pretty thin, too.

Is Ryan Clark going to clear the concussion tests and is Ike Taylor going to recover from whatever illness is keeping him off the practice field? Because realistically in a season of bumps in the road losing those two this Sunday would be really difficult to overcome

Yeah - your secondary needs to have all hands on deck against the Ravens.
They are gonna throw the ball and throw it a lot.

Exactly Otis. Let's be serious in today's NFL no team can a afford to carry 2 starting caliber qbs. You either have a Byron or a rookie. Byron and Charlie have both had some good outings for the Steelers and they are both "experienced" to say the least, but an oline that might be down to 3rd stringers this week protecting a qb who's as mobile as a redwood? Either the running game goes wild or the D comes up huge. So it goes

Word is that Roethlisberger chuckled when they told him he had a "breastbone"

In a competitive situation its hard for players to back off. That's why coaches and doctors need to keep close eye on them. I don't think the Steelers will allow him to play if his life is in danger.

Yes they are rusty and worn in all areas enough to beat the Bungles in the Jungle and have a two game lead on the team that can't put two back-to-back winning seasons together.
