08:12 AM ET 11.15 | Clearly, Miami was intent on ridding itself of big contract dollars. According to an industry source, the Marlins informed all 29 other clubs at last week's general managers meetings in Palm Springs that they were putting some of their biggest remaining names on the trading block. The Yankees never pursued any of Miami's players during the past week, choosing to let another team take on the sizeable contracts of Jose Reyes and Mark Buehrle. ... The Yankees remain focused on bringing back Hiroki Kuroda, and although Andy Pettitte has not informed the Bombers whether he plans to pitch in 2013, the general belief is that he will return for another season. If those two starters return, the source said, the need to add Buehrle and/or Johnson doesn't exist.

QUOTE(#1):

kurota was better than I expected, and if he comes back for a 1 year deal, fine....but It is time to hand the ball over to our kids in the minors.I see team after team throwing out kids who pitch lights outand its time to put a little trust in the farm-Instead of focusing on pitching-focus on getting some position players who can hit in the post-season- which has been the downfall of this club the last 10 years (other than the one WS win)

The two old pitchers you take advantage of their final years, if Rivera can get back to what he was before. But they're screwed with ARod, and both Cano and Granderson are up next year. They might want to consider trying to lure some major league ready talent for one of those guys.

Based on what the Marlins got in return for all those players, 28 other teams decided to pass on those contracts.

I think it's time to say goodbye to Andy.

Pettite is the Brett Favre version of MLB.

27. Boston wanted em, but couldn't convince them to take Bobby Valentine's contract for them.

If Boston really wanted them, they could have had them.

Probably, but they'd be giving up the best of their system for em. The Jays gave up the expendable pieces while keeping what they want for the future. The Jays always had that luxury, while the deal never made sense for Boston.

The biggest thing the Jays gave up was payroll flexability. And that may come back to bite them in the arse.
