08:15 AM ET 11.15 | Northern Illinois's win over Toledo Thursday guaranteed another MAC West title, even if earlier this week Huskies head coach Dave Doeren muddied his future in Dekalb. In the coming weeks, as more Football Bowl Subdivision coaches are handed their pink slips, Doeren figures to be a hot name. In an interview with SiriusXM College Sports Nation on Tuesday, Doeren said he would be open to other opportunities that could pop up. ... [Said Doeren:] "I really have enjoyed the process at NIU and they gave me my first chance to be a head coach. So I'm going to do everything I can to make this the best school that I can make it. If something comes along that I know if better for me and my family, I'm going to have to listen to it."

How sad when refreshing honesty is considered newsworthy. Good coaches in the MAC always get offers from bigger schools. Just ask Kelly, Hoke, Kill, Beckman etc.

Pretty much true for all "non AQ" ones...i.e. Sumlin from C-USA.

If I was his boss, I'd say, "Well, it's not like we thought we were a destination job..."

It's the way the CFB world works today. What happens if there is so much money fron the play-off TV contract, that the little guys can pay a lot more? Would some coaches stay at non-AQ schools and avoid the pressure of the big time schools?

Agreed. Considering how fan bases tar and feather a guy who pays lip service to the fact that he's there for the long haul and immediately bails at the next knock on his door, this guy should be appreciated for telling it like it is.

I do NOT understand how someone could not think a MAC school is not their ideal destination. Solich thinks it is does he not?

Unless there are family circumstances (Peterson - BSU) I would imagine that these guys are generally wired to seek out the greater challenge otherwise they'd have never achieved their current role. Stepping stones will remain stepping stones, save for the few outlier personalities. IMO

Solich had a run in the spotlight. Once out of it perhaps he realizes that there may be more to enjoying coaching than the destination job.

Actually to be honest, I thought he got jobbed by the cornshuckers.... He was a good coach, ran a good program and was winning games, just not all of them!

100% agree. These guys are competitive to their core, at least the good ones seem to be.

These schools can also be great places to wind-down[last stop of a good career] or step back and recharge.
NIU was,I believe Lee Corso's last coaching job. He replaced Bill Mallory who went to Indiana after Sam Wyche went to the Cincinnati Bengals to replace Forrest Gregg who went to the Green Bay Packers to replace Bart Starr who fired after losing on last minute field goal to the Bears. At the news conference announcing Corso's hiring Corso took time to publicly thank Bob Thomas the Bears kicker.

Frank is a good guy and a decent coach but he seems to have a knack for not getting the most out of the talent he has, look at the last 3 games, he had a 7-0 start and then when things ramp up at the end, his teams don't continue to improve...he's gotten his teams to 4 bowl games and won 1 and has 0 MAC titles and 2 MAC east titles....
