04:47 PM ET 11.15 | Athletes like to have a good time when they aren't on the court. This is a fact of life. But sometimes, they can spend too much time partying and not enough time being a professional. That's something that happened to New York Knicks guard J.R. Smith last year after he came over from China. This season, though, Smith has toned it down, and so far, it's led to a great individual start to the season. Smith is averaging 18.2 points per game while shooting nearly 50 percent from the field. "I'm not going to lie, New York City nightlife last year pretty much got to me," Smith said. "I was going out pretty much every other night, just not focused on the task at hand. This year is definitely different."

What an idiot. I'm allowed to say that right?
He signed for nothing just to be able to stay with NY, why didn't he do this last year if he wanted to prove everyone what he's got and why they need to sign him long time. Maybe he could have gotten (I doubt it though) a starting role this season.

Dude if the NBA was fixed like that, there's no way the Spurs would have won as much as they did. You're nuts.
