08:01 AM ET 11.16 | When it comes to GM Tom Heckert and coach Pat Shurmur, the new sheriff in town -- Browns CEO Joe Banner -- isn't backing away from the hard questions, including whether Cleveland's power structure eliminates a potential hiring pool. "But doesn't that set-up eliminate a big-name hire who simply doesn't want to deal with the CEO? ... Banner: No, listen, if we got to the point where there was somebody we felt that this was the right answer and we need to find a way to get this guy, we're going to be open to doing what we need to do to make it work. ... So, you haven't eliminated big-name coaches as candidates? ... Banner: No, I don't think we have. Again, part of that answer is if we need to adapt the structure to get the right people, we will."

Yup, he's got the 'big' part covered.

Did anyone there think that perhaps Shurmur can coach? How would they know at this point? This is the team that fired BB.

They do seem to aspire to be celler dwellers

I can see Andy Reid going there... would be a nice fit too..

This is not the ownership or front office that fired BB. And mayber Shurmur can coach. They've been in every game right to the end but just can't finish. The record may not be better than last year but the overal play is much improved. If they can squeeze out 3 more wins maybe Shurmur can save his job. Or maybe Banner's mind is already made up. Lots of maybes...

Damn shame, isn't it?

You would like to see what the guy can do with an even playing field because they HAVE been in every game.

Could be a tight fit.

If they can maintain some continuity next year I think they could finally turn it around. Youngest team in the league and they could be good for a long time. Not easy being a fan of any sport in Cleveland.

Joe will most likely be the only banner hung in a few short years there.

Shurmur might be a good coach. But the players were drafted by Holmgren, Shurmur was hired by Holmgren, and Holmgren has been let go...it looks as though the writing is on the wall for Shurmur.

"Banner won't rule out big-name hire"

However, the big-name might rule out Banner.

How about "George Robert Stephanopoulos?" That's a pretty big name, and while he may not know football, I'll bet he can lobby the officials really well.
