08:16 AM ET 11.16 | While much of the talk in Boston centers around external acquisitions, Ben Cherington also has some internal considerations. According to several league sources, the Red Sox have already decided it would be in their best interest to begin discussions this winter about a possible long-term contract extension with veteran second baseman Dustin Pedroia. Pedroia, 29, still has two years remaining on his current six-year, $40.5 million deal. He's due $10 million in both 2013 and 2014, and the Red Sox have a club option for $11 million (with a $500,000 buyout) for 2015. A league source indicated a potential extension for Pedroia isn't something the Red Sox are focused on right now because of all the other aspects they must address first.

This is the last thing the Red Sox should be concerned about at this point.

I love that they've got a picture of the guy on crutches, and then suggesting a contract extention. I see what you did there, interns.

This does seem somewhat premature considering the state of the rest of the team.

Not really, locking up a cornerstone shows stability. If that doesn't help bring in free agents, just do the tried and true method that always works for any free agent, no matter their allegiance or wanting to play in a certain city.

Throw more money than anyone else at them. It's the only known way to get the FA's you want.

It's the best I could do.

This city sucks.

Sure we joke around about other places, but this place makes me pine for Worcester.

The "culture" store is Vera Bradley. The most popular tourist gifts are cow tipping t-shirts.

Don't ever come here, it's not worth it.

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) ??? Comedian Katt Williams has been arrested after a man told Oakland police that the entertainer hit him over the head with a bottle.

Authorities say the 41-year-old Williams was briefly taken into custody on suspicion of assault Wednesday night after the apparent victim said he was attacked aboard a tour bus that was parked outside a downtown hotel.

Williams was released after investigators questioned him and several witnesses. Calls to representatives for Williams were not immediately returned.

Police said the man was treated at a hospital for a cut to his head. His name has not been released.

The performer is known for his HBO special, "Katt Williams: Pimp Chronicles Pt. 1," and movie roles, including "Friday After Next" and "Norbit."

I guess it isn't a surprise I had no idea who he was considering one of this "highlights" is being in the movie Norbit.
