08:17 AM ET 11.16 | A new team has officially entered the thick of the B.J. Upton sweepstakes. [Braves GM] Frank Wren spent Thursday afternoon and some of the early-evening hours courting [Upton]. The Braves welcomed Upton to Turner Field on Thursday to provide the talented outfielder a better sense of how much they are hoping that he chooses to play in Atlanta next year. ... [The] Braves appear to regard Upton as the most attractive outfielder available on the free agent market. But the Braves are not the only National League East club interested in Upton. The Phillies are believed to be making a serious push to land the 28-year-old outfielder, who has been with the Rays since being selected with the second overall selection in the 2002 First-Year Player Draft.

and he will expect a deal in the 5 yrs/$75mil range....c'mon Wren, why not just give that to Bourn and be done with it?

November 16, 2012  10:08 AM ET

Not a max effort guy.

November 16, 2012  10:17 AM ET

The only reason I think the Braves want Upton is for power, but for my money I would take Bourn, because I think he is a better all round player.

No, that's not correct. I think the best way to put it is he loses focus from time to time. He plays hard and is very well regarded in the club house.

You're entitled to your opinion. I have seen him benched by Maddon for lack of hustle and I have seen him taken to task by other players for it as well.

bj upton expected higher consideration in his contract the rays refuse to offer him a top deal and upton slow down in the bases as well,, but should upton play to his capabilities in any new team?? or just first season and then just relax??

either greener or greater, but the bj upton showcases is tough to describe!!!

November 16, 2012  12:48 PM ET

i wonder why? the rays refuse to trade him in last season?? not enough players in return? or the trade offers never show up at all??

November 16, 2012  12:49 PM ET

james shields its the next to be shopped, but could the rays pull any late trade with shields at all??

Just think, his '12 numbers constitute his salary run for a big contract...they're probably going down.

its bj upton a free agent season player?? well as they say show me your qualities and best skills and you may make me shop for you,,,

November 16, 2012  12:52 PM ET

tori hunter played his last season just to get a new deal? or it was just to prove teams he still good as a hitter and deffensive player?? hard to figureout!!!
