08:22 AM ET 11.16 | Credit second baseman Ian Kinsler for a willingness to put the team above his position. [Kinsler] said that he would move positions if asked in spring training, a request that would come if the Rangers attempt to wedge rookie Jurickson Profar into the regular lineup. "I'm paid to be a Texas Ranger," Kinsler said Thursday afternoon before hosting Thanksgiving dinner at the Family Gateway in Dallas. "Where I play on the field is not my decision. I'm going to do whatever I can to help the team win regardless of where I am on the fielder or where I'm hitting in the batting order." Kinsler believes that he's a capable second baseman, but Profar would play there unless shortstop Elvis Andrus is traded.

Well, that's refreshing to see a team player in a team sport.

Since the man does public relations in the community and comes out and tells everyone he will play anywhere it would be hard now for the Rangers to move him if they were thinking about it.

Where would he end up? In the outfield?

It's a move that worked pretty well for Pete Rose.

Should be a transition he can handle by the end of spring training if that's what they want to do.

I think Pete is the only player to ever play more than 500 games at 5 different positions.

I didn't realize that--2B, LF, 3B, and 1B--was the 5th position RF?

He was a fine player, and the gambling didn't seem to become a problem until he started managing. He had 2 lineups that he used, one filled with old guys who tended to lose a lot, and one filled with young up-coming stars, who tended to win a lot. He claims that he personally only bet on the team to win, so I guess we can infer which lineup he was betting on.

Yes. Say what you want about Rose, but the SOB was a winner, played hard, and was a team guy.

I loved the way he played.
