Daly: Maybe they should get a reality check

Reality went out the window the minute the players agreed to have a labor pariah represent them.

Reality check: I just stopped giving a damn.

A 2 weeks recess = Owners are laying down the Hammer now...........the sooner the Players realize they are bringing Knives to a gun fight the sooner we will get Hockey back.

Great now the harsh words start. My negotiater can beat up your negotiater...

That pretty much describes my take on this mess all along. Now, if the Poison Dwarf has said it, I'd take it with a grain of salt. But, when Bill Daly speaks, I tend to listen. Besides, we all know what the Fehrer's MO is. Play hard ball to the bitter end and wait for the "greedy" owners to cave in.

Question is: Who gets hurt the most in this mess? The superstars? No. The owners? Some of them, sure. But it is the two thirds bottom of the NHL players who don't make a ton of money and players who are near the end of their playing careers. They are the ones who are getting screwed by the Fehrer's tactics. Them and, of course, us the fans. But, when did the Fehrer ever start giving a sheyet about the average player or the fans?

Good comment and I agree 100%, however there is another rather large group of people who are getting crushed by this work stoppage. They are the team management staff, scouts, trainers, the people who have part time jobs at the arenas so they can earn extra money, the pub and restaurant owners and employees that are located near the arenas and so on and so forth.

Thanks for reminding us. I'm sure it truly sucks for them and their families. I wonder if they're looking forward to a Happy Christmas.

Well, now that the talks have devolved into an "I'm rubber, you're glue.." mentality, it's time for both sides to call that mediator in as it's obvious that neither side wants to budge on anything.

The league has moved off of their original offer by a rather substantial amount, the players have not. It's as simple as that.

And, as we all know Bettman and Daly are soooooo into compromise.

It cracks me up everytime people complain about Fehr. Oh, they say, he was responsible for baseball cancelling a World Series. Well, Bettman already has 3 lockouts to his credit including an entire season lost, so I'd say he's way ahead of Fehr in the "play hard ball" arena.

As everybody knows (everybody that is who doesn't have their head up the leagues butt), the owners original offer was total b.s. They had to come off of it and make a legitimate offer. Since then, they haven't budged either.

Maybe Bettman should have come up with a different plan than locking out the players then?

And, therein lies the problem. Both sides drew their line in the sand. Neither side wants to budge. But, considering the financial realities of the poor chets that get up before sunrise and go to work for a living and have to spend enormous amounts of money (by the average person's standard) to see these pampered prim-ma donas play a kid's game, I have no sympathy to their "plight" whatsoever. Reality check? Indeed.

No one ever thinks about these folks during a work stoppage (lockout, strike, whatever term they use). They are tossed out like yesterday's garbage and each side will blame the other for their fate. In any sport... Stern, Goodell, Selig, Bettman and the greedy owners and players - they're all the same. Hockey is probably the worst though, with the frequency of their lockouts.
