02:55 PM ET 11.16 | Under fan pressure, UCLA opted not to let USC's drum major perform his traditional pregame routine, which involves jamming a sword through the midfield logo, whether at a home or road stadium. In response, the Trojan laments not being able to lead his team into battle in the customary fashion.

This is just another step in UCLA "Breaking The Monopoly On Southern California Football Prowess" or whatever it was Nieuheisel said in his famous newspaper ad, which was what, about 2-3 years ago? Slow process fellas, but progress is progress...

Makes sense to me...why should a visiting mascot be allowed to thrust a sword into the home team's logo? UCLA should have done this year's ago.

Ah, cross-town rivalry... yeah, buddy.

Exactly!!.. I don't get what all the fuss is about.. UCLA is FINALLY showing some back-bone.. do you think Florida would let the Florida State Seminole warrior do the same thing.. I don't think so!!

remember how P'd off Notre dame was when MSU put their flag in the ground. I don't see this being any different, that is straight up disrespect putting a sword in your teams logo. I am an MSU fan and that move sickened me.

I think the ban is more a demonstration against senseless violence and to cease the blatant disrespect shown to Iron Age inhabitants of Asia Minor by USC.

Not our proudest moment, but then, John L never really had control of the team. I still think Lou Holtzs' reaction on ESPN was hilarious.

Ninja'd by many, but I was surprised to find out that other teams allow the sword to be "thrust" into their logo at mid-field...asinine if you ask me....

I do respect the Vegas line. I do think we pull away late in Q3 and win by about 20.

Good hype. Should be a good game. Don't count UCLA out. (Man, that Nina Agdal keeps assuming the position. Jeez.)

How often has Notre Dame gone after UCLA in November Mr Ice?

November 16, 2012  06:55 PM ET

And exactly what happens if he does it anyways?? Kind of like Miami and the smoke thing at the Orange Bowl.
