Bruins owner, Bettman lording over teams with most to lose?

09:44 AM ET 11.18 | If the season is canceled, the Maple Leafs will lose approximately $100 million, the Rangers at least $50 million and the Canadiens somewhat less than that. Yet not one of these ownership groups is represented on the NHL negotiating committee. And while Toronto GM Brian Burke is on the committee, we're told the league's agenda is being plotted all but exclusively by Canceler-in-Chief Gary Bettman and Boston owner Jeremy Jacobs, the hawkish chairman of the Board of Governors. Indeed, according to one trustworthy individual who attended the negotiating session in New York on Nov. 9, Calgary owner Murray Edwards was at one point silenced by Bettman just a moment after Jacobs leaned over and whispered into the commissioner's ear.

You really have to bend over a long way to whisper sweet nothings into Napoleon's ear...

Lose the season, Bettman finally get's what he deserves, install Gretzky as the new commish, contract the league to 24 teams and beg the fans for forgiveness.

if you fold up Columbus, Florida, Phoenix, Carolina, Tampa and Dallas, all in the middle of the night, do you think anybody would notice?

No question, it's easier said than done and does a disservice to the core fan base in those cities, but other than the core fan base, who in those regions really care? Rapid expansion is a good way to kill a leagues growth. Puts a lot of players in the NHL that should still be in the AHL. Perhaps there are only four teams to contract and not six. Which four? No matter what, it's painful and crappy for the die hard fans. Shouldn't have happened in the first place.

Let the Original Six secede and make their own league.

Nashville is a great city, but the Preds need victories to keep their fan base as it fluctuates with each season. When the team wins, ratings are up and the fans come, when they do not the opposite happens. Nashville's attendance ranks 20th in the league.

Contraction is a sensitive topic but I still like the idea of Gretz taking over as commish.

Bottom five teams in terms of attendance:
Anaheim
Columbus
Dallas
NY Islanders
Phoenix

I think his little girl Paulina knows the players and their needs a whole lot better than Wayner...
