08:02 AM ET 11.19 | We passed along the rumors earlier this month that the Tennessee Volunteers officials had decided it was time to move on from head coach Derek Dooley and that they would wait until after the Vanderbilt game to make the announcement. Now, a day after the Vols' embarrassing loss to Vanderbilt, the university has made the announcement. Dooley has been fired as the team's head coach and will not coach in the Vol's season finale against Kentucky. "I am sorry we could not generate enough wins to create hope for a brighter future," said Dooley in a statement. "Although progress was not reflected in our record, I am proud of the strides we made to strengthen the foundation for future success in all areas of the program. During the last 34 months, I've given my all for Tennessee, and our family appreciates all this University and the Knoxville community has given us."

Wonder if Franklin-the HC from Vandy is on the short list. He should be getting a number of offers this year.

I am not sure they are allowed to think of getting Franklin, just not right.

Here are the facts regarding the situation of the new hire to date:

1. Dooley was fired after Ms State but it wasnt to be made official until the new hire was complete.
2. There is a gentlemans agreement in place, the hire is done.
3. Hart will be fired if its not a rockstar as the top booster has legal ability to fire the University President who can fire the AD.
4. It is a done deal b/c Hart publicly said: It wont be a coordinator, Money wont be an issue, It will be someone with head coaching experience and a proven winning record.... If it werent a done deal he wouldnt have put himself in that corner.

That's where you get down on your hands and knees, stare intently into a cow patty fresh from Bevo, and sniff the fumes real deep. Then you get a vision in your head that is supposed to answer any CFB question that you are seeking answered.

Oh yea, he also said there will be no baggage which eliminates near every candidate who also fits the criteria above.... So who does that leave?

So, sounds like all that's missing is a name...? And when might that be forthcoming?

Tenn sucks. Manning isn't coming back. Get over it.

Tough year to land a good coach for any "(what's the past tense for elite?)" school. Several SEC schools will be looking for one, so a lot of also-rans will be getting picked up.
