08:10 AM ET 11.19 | If Rajon Rondo winds up moving past John Stockton on the consecutive double-digit-assist games streak, he'll have Doc Rivers to thank for helping him get there during a blowout loss Sunday in Detroit. Assistant coach Mike Longabardi asked the Celtics broadcasting team of Mike Gorman and Tommy Heinsohn early in the fourth quarter how many assists Rondo had. The answer was six. So [Rivers] reinserted Rondo with 8:40 left in the fourth quarter and the Celtics trailing, 79-65. He played 8:24 before leaving with 16.1 left, having reached the mark. Rivers freely admitted after a listless performance in his team's 103-83 loss, the primary goal was to extend the streak. "Yeah, why not?" River said. ... "I figured I'd give him a shot at it."

This is bad coaching.

They were down anyway and not going to save the game why not let the young fellow go at it??

I could not believe what I was watching last night....I was just thinking what if he injured himself. Not a classy move Doc but hey do what you do.

They were down by 14, Rondo is dishing assist (other guys scoring) and they loose by 20. I don't get it. Did Boston stop playing defense being only down 14 with 8:24 to play?

Not so "remarkable", under the circumstances.
