08:15 AM ET 11.19 | While one weekend report suggested an offer would be coming soon, there remains the chance the Mets could move R.A. Dickey. One high-ranking major league executive who spoke recently with Mets officials came away thinking that the team "would want a monster package for (R.A.) Dickey, and if they don't get it, probably would not trade him." The executive, who has also discussed the market for Dickey with other GMs who have asked the Mets about him, loosely defined that "monster package" as a few high-end prospects or major leaguers, likely outfielders or catching help. "They aren't approaching teams on this, but they're letting teams come to them," the executive said.

I did. And then I googled it and the Mets have an option for next year, so why the big rush to either get a deal done or trade him?

Dickey is signed for this year at only 5 mil. To get a Cy Young award winner coming off 3 consecutive good years making what amounts to baseball pocket change you'd have to give up quite a bit. Sign him for an additional 2 years and the price goes WAY up to get him.

Except I bet not a lot of people are going to be knocking the door down to get him.

Good fit for the Red Sox perhaps who have a good catcher to trade, and possibly more.

Yeah, no one needs guys that throw over 200 innings, strike out a lot of people and manage to win 20 games on a godawful team with no defense. Pitchers simply aren't in demand.

What choice do the Mets have? Suck with Dickey ( careful now boys and girls ) or suck with prospects in return for him.

Sign and trade will be easier than trying to trade him unsigned...

Have to start somewhere...take the young talent if you can get it...or take a bonafide outfielder for him...

Ellsbury and a young catcher......would be a nice Christmas present....

They have so many holes it may force their hand to deal him, Niese or one of the young pitching prospects. As of right now they have no outfield and no catcher. Thole is awful. They also have defensive liabilities in multiple positions when Duda is in the line up. Their bullpen was far and away the worst in the league last year.

You don't think so....why not....I think Boston has had enough of Ellsbury's fragile status...it would be a gamble for the Mets also because the guy hasn't proven he can stay healthy and on the field....
