Why lockout is 'only-lose' for Crosby

08:28 AM ET 11.19 | This time around, Sidney Crosby's task is far more complicated than the one that faced him after the most recent lockout. He is the most recognized face of the NHL and the most far-reaching voice of its Players' Association -- a man who must think big picture but also stay on message during a two-month lockout that has blocked his presumed triumphant return from two years of concussion hell. "It's been tough because you have to try and understand both sides, but on top of that I'm a player," Crosby said. ... "It's like an only-lose spot for Sid," Penguins goalie Marc-Andre Fleury said. "He is our face, but he will have to be their face. Everybody wants to hear what he has to say, especially now, and everybody will look at him when we come back."

No, Marcus Andrew, nobody wants to hear what the most monotonous, uninteresting player in sport has to say. They want to see him on the ice.

Fleury thinks he's two-faced? Locker room problems already.

Puckhead's happy MAF isn't 'the face' of the NHL. ;-)

Sidney may be a great player, but he is also a high school drop out. He is doing and saying exactly what the Fehrer wants him to. The notion that he is trying to understand both sides is comical. Crosby is in it for Crosby and nobody else.

How true. You get some of these 'sports figures' on talk shows and you think it's a good thing they play well, or they would be living under a bridge.

The NHL season has been cancelled in total -- the fans did that last week. So Union and Owners, forget about this season - we are NO longer interested

"Why lockout is 'only-lose' for Crosby"

If the lockout ends tomorrow and they stat playing next week, it'll still be 'only lose' for Crosby because he'll get his brains knocked into the next time zone. At least he remember who he is now and is not nursing a headache 24/7.

So toughguy, how 'bout we have 6'6" David Steckel goon you from behind with a no warning smash to your head? Think you could take that any better than Crosby -- oh wait, we'll never know because you aren't a professional athlete and nobody would pay to see you do much of anything, huh?

That and Sidney had to use the Pens medical staff who cleared him to play the next game when he got clobbered again. Maybe he should find some actual doctors to treat him instead of Wal-Mart pharmacists?

this boob who calls himself kill don fehr, is it the buttgobkin using a nom de guerre, or maybe a frustrated billionaire pissed off that there is actually someone with the audacity to stand up on behalf of the working (producing) class against the leeching, sorry, elitist owners. Personally I hope it's the former.

Sadly, you'll never be smart enough to know how ignorant your little rant is.

I am the working class ya farkin moron. I have been a carpenter for 28 years, the last 18 of which I've been the owner of my own remodeling company. I have no doubt that I produced more last year than you have in your pathetic little life and the biggest difference between me and you and a small number of other envious and jealous quislings on these threads is that I know that poor ignorant slummers like you are useless. You do nothing to stimulate the economy and I hope to hell that you haven't been breeding. Lord knows we have enough stupid little beggars running loose in this country.

I've never, as in not once, taken on a good paying project for a low rent **** like you who hates people because they have more than you do.

that word you used before moron, the 2nd and 3rd letters are u & c. so who's ignorant, huh? by the way, maybe you should explain what a quisling is. ah mybe you're too busy pounding nails into drywall so i'll do it for you. Quisling was the name of Norway's P.M. during W.W. II who sold out his country to the Nazis, a quisling has come to mean someone who sells out his own kind for his own benefit. now i know i is jus igrant, but it seems to me someone who claims to be working class yet would like to see a union leader killed, maybe he should think twice about using aword like quisling.

^ Triple posting like a boss. ugh.

Assuming anything about any user of the message boards is farcical. What distinguishes us from the lower primates is ability to reason and accept the possibility that people disagree, while I may have an opposing opinion to what you have said, I will not directly attack a person, calling them something I deem insulting, instead I will form a cogent argument, and if I have fact to add to my conjecture I will, but you are what is wrong with this planet as a whole, if more people chose to enlighten their children and not allow ignorance and prejudice to be a part of their daily lives, life might be a little easier, and the only things we'd argue on is what team we cheer for and why we like one beer over another. While I respect KDF's right to their opinion, do I always agree? No, and nor would I resort to slander for an answer to their posts. The only time I would condone actions such as this is if you had proof to your claims, which you do not; so cease and desist.

Now to the matter at hand.

There is no doubting Crosby's ability or his basic talent as a Hockey player, and like it or not he's been a poster child of the league for the better part of a decade now (educated or not), and if he thought that his opinion didn't matter, he'd be wrong, that being said, even the casual observer of sport would know who he is, and if he chose to make a statement it would be heard, and hopefully heeded. However, at this point, he's is dealing with a double edged sword, coming back from a nasty concussion, and dealing with this lockout, but he's already made his money, unlike the hundreds of bit players that are in the same (if not more dire) situation he finds himself in.

Speak up Sidney, We can't hear you in the nosebleeds!
