Obstacles in the way of a Billy Butler trade to Seattle

07:45 PM ET 11.19 | Reports say that the Seattle Mariners "covet" Kansas City Royals DH Billy Butler. It seems like a potential fit. The Mariners need offense and have young arms. The Royals have some bats in the lineup with strong track records and potential. Easy fit, one would think. But it's not so simple. What the Mariners are likely to be willing to part with may be too much pitching than they'd want to trade and Butler has been too good to go straight up for a prospect. The two teams are likely to hit an impasse that leaves both wanting.

Butler is an established hitter. A good No. 3 thru 6 guy. In return, KC damn well better receive a No. 1 or 2 pitcher.
