Buccaneers need to sell 7,400 tickets to avoid blackout

05:50 AM ET 11.20 | The Buccaneers are 6-4; they're the first team on the outside looking in when it comes to the Wild Card and this team is finally coming together. They can't lose even when they clearly lined themselves up to do so, but even with Doug Martin and the upside of this team, Tampa Bay can't sell tickets to save their lives. Before this Sunday, 7,400 tickets need to be sold in order to avoid a blackout when the Bucs play the Falcons. The excuse in recent memory has been that this team isn't good enough to pay for. Granted, I don't believe this team is worthy of a playoff spot, but there's no denying that this team is markedly better than it has been in the past. The economy isn't the best in Tampa, but the Glazers have lowered ticket prices and tried to make going to games more attractive.

"but the Glazer's have lowered ticket prices and tried to make going to games more attractive."
Lowered them how much? How about parking? Food? Beer?
The last I looked, you needed to take out a mortgage to take a family of 4 to an NFL game, and the banks weren't lending.
Seats aren't just a little above what people want to pay. They're a lot above.

It's not the economy. The Tampa area crowds are so unfaithful to their teams they're probably hoping the game gets blacked out so they can watch a different game.

ARRGH Matey it's the Pirate ship, bad luck for any team!
Heck I'd go to the game if I was in the area, but then I went to see UNLV last Saturday so that is probably not a good example.

Why have pro baseball and football teams in Florida when they cant sellout?

It sounds as though they have a few more seats than the market will support right now. So rope some of them off, call it a sellout, and broadcast the game locally. When fans see the team is playing well, more of them will want to buy tickets.

The Team is playing well, maybe they will start selling out, it would be great for the Players!!!

I don't understand the idea of blackouts. Yeah, when seats were reasonable 30 years ago, you could get fans to go to the game if that was the only way to see it. But now? You've got to put a good product on the field to get fans in, and you have to keep them interested.
One way to keep fans interested is to show the games on free TV. No free TV = no fan support. It's that simple. Lift the blackout and fans will buy more tickets. It doesn't work the other way around.

Blacking out the games only makes fans forget they even have a team. Bad strategy. Put a couple of tickets into cases of beer or something but don't take the product off the market!!

They have the 85% rule for the blackout and they are still over 7,000 tickets short of a "sellout"... What a joke. And quit blaming the economy for crying out loud. It's not pleasant everywhere yet "winning" teams don't have a massive excess of empty seats except for Tampa.
