Boston Celtics to pursue trade for Marcin Gortat

05:55 AM ET 11.20 | With Darko Milicic now gone for the remainder of the season, the need for a true center in Boston has become even more pressing. Enter the Polish Hammer. Marcin Gortat is disenchanted with Alvin Gentry and the Phoenix Suns, and the Boston Celtics are said to be one of four teams interested in his services. Celtics GM Danny Ainge has long been lauded for his creativity in working with the salary cap and where there is a will, there is a way. Maybe that is an oversimplification, because if they can't hammer out a deal that works with the league's CBA, it simply can't happen. But Gortat apparently wants out of Phoenix, and Boston is interested. Expect to see Danny Ainge push all in on this one.

No one in their right mind thought Darko would be "the savior". He was brought in to spell KG, block a few shots and burn a couple fouls every game-that's it.

What jgb says is true. There was an article not too long ago where they said they were going to give Darko a 'true chance' at redemption. As a Wolves fan i had to laugh. Not as bad as manna from heaven- Kahn quote, but bad enough. And then a Celts fan basically cursed the Wolves for handling the Darko situation the way they did (Adelman calling out Darko publicly for sloth he is/now was). BTW the curse that Celts fan hexed mustve worked. Wolves cant stay healthy. Anyway, Gortat would be a true upgrade.

Anyone who thought Darko would be more than a 10 minute deep sub would be crazy.

I think that is all Boston wanted ... a 4th/5th big man for 10 minutes / game.

Once they got a close look at Darko -- he wasn't good enough to give any minutes. (Chris Wilcox, Sullinger, Bass, Garnett only)

Darko has been given a number of chances. Last year he got 15-20 minutes / games for the TWolves.

What exactly does Boston have to offer for Gortat? That is the question.

I agree -- Gortat is Suns best or 2nd best player. (Dragic)

Gortat makes $7.2 & $7.7M ... this year & next.

Pierce, Rondo, Garnett, Bradley, Terry -- won't be traded.

Jeff Green's salary is close ... Bass+Wilcox ... Sullinger+Lee ????

I think Suns would really want to get rid of him -- I don't think that would happen.

Sullinger was the star of Ohio state and the kid I think of name from Syracuse was also the star...Bass had experience and solid ball player better than any the Suns have!

Darko and a ton of money to the Suns for Gortat...!!Ainge - Pull the trigger now...

Yes you are confused......considering that the first sentence in the article says; "With Darko Milicic now GONE for the remainder of the season.....".

Meaning? That Phoenix has no incentive to make such a trade......
