Niners' guaranteed QB controversy

07:33 AM ET 11.20 | Will Alex Smith's hot hand be forgotten? Colin Kaepernick made a convincing argument for unseating the NFL's third-rated passer with a sterling performance Monday night in the 49ers' 32-7 thrashing of the Chicago Bears at Candlestick Park. Kaepernick led the 49ers on scoring drives on the first four possessions of the game to open the debate on whether he will -- or should -- supplant Smith as the 49ers' starter on Sunday against the New Orleans Saints. ... As for the impending quarterback controversy, Harbaugh said he believes in sticking with what's working. "We'll see," Harbaugh said. "I usually tend to go with the guy who has the hot hand. We got two quarterbacks who have a hot hand."

How come the Niners get two starting quarterbacks and the Cardinals and Chiefs don't get any?

let's be real....Smith was a game manager....Kaepernick is AT LEAST that and possible a bunch more...the team that surrounds these guys is where the bulk of the talent lies...

He beat a Good Team!!!!!

Alex Smith was on his way out of the NFL before Harbaugh resurrected his career. He's shown he deserves the job.

He beat a good defense. With Cutler on the sidelines, the Bears offense is missing something.

Poor Jason Campbell..... The man can't catch a break!

The bears Tackle, Webb should not be in the NFL.

I don't think Flynn's current predicament is his fault. Instead, it's just a pleasant surprise in just how well Russell Wilson has adapted to the NFL. Flynn could be starting for several teams right now.

This! Too often qbs are annointed after 1 good game. I need to see a body of work to be impressed.

I don't like "flip-foppers" Jim Harbaugh is a liar and a flip-flopper. First he lies about not courting Peyton Manning and stating his"always" epmphatic commitment to Alex Smith yet now he's talking about going with the "hot hand." He's not a man of his word.

November 20, 2012  09:15 AM ET

Everybody knew this might happen. Hopefully Harbaugh thought long and hard about how he's going to handle it.

November 20, 2012  09:16 AM ET

Hell - the way Kaepernick threw the ball last night, he looked like the second coming of Joe Montana!

Leave him in there...

November 20, 2012  09:24 AM ET

These guys are totally ruining the theory that you need a franchise QB to win big in the NFL.

This.

I've been saying all along Kaepernick should be starting and if they leave him in there Alex Smith will be looking for a job come this offseason... maybe trade him to the Jets or something...

Cheap, cheap. Bad scouting is what I see. Anderson, Kolb......

The same could be said for the rest of the Bears O-line.
