Dodgers' small price to pay for Kuroda

07:39 AM ET 11.20 | Because the Yankees made a qualifying offer to Hiroki Kuroda, signing Kuroda would cost a team such as the Dodgers their first-round draft pick. It has become fashionable to say that signing Kuroda wouldn't be worth the pick, the No. 19 overall selection. Really? Not sure I'm buying that one. ... If the Dodgers think Kuroda, at 38, could step into their rotation next season in the No. 3 or 4 spot and give them enough balance to reach the World Series, should they really step aside because of some high-school pitcher in North Carolina or some college shortstop from West Covina? Let's get real. The baseball draft, unlike those in other sports, is still a ridiculous crap shoot.

Yanks aren't winning the WS next year with or without Kuroda. While I like Kuroda, I am fine with the Dodgers signing him and getting the 19th pick in the draft.
CC, Pettitte, Hughes, Nova, Phelps and hopefully Banuelos rebounds this year.

The West Coast edition of the Yankees-LA will keep buying, trading, and do anything else they can to win now. But my question is what happens down the road say 5 years from now and they still haven't won a championship and traded away their young talent and draft picks what will happen to the LA Dodgers.

Could be, but Kuroda made it very clear, that he wants to play on the West coast.

IMO, Pettite is good for maybe 18-20 starts. Are you better off waiting until July to use him?

Kuroda really did a great job last year for us. It would suck if he went someplace else to play.

The Yankees wouldn't get that pick. The Dodgers lose it and everyone else just moves up. The compensation picks are after the first round.

Expect this to go a LONG time.
Kuroda is worth 12 mil for a year easily.
Even though he's a legit #3 for the Dodgers, they are STACKED with pitching even if it's a little wobbly.
Kershaw is #1, Beckett is #2, Billingsley is #3.
Then you have Capuano, Harang, and Lilly.
Finally you have Ryu to negotiate with.
Even with injuries, not sure I'd give up the 19th pick for a 1 year rental who is probably your #3 or #4 starter and forcing you to get rid of another average+ starter.
