01:18 PM ET 11.20 | The Pittsburgh Steelers will sign free-agent quarterback Brian Hoyer, CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reports. Hoyer beat out several free-agent quarterbacks, including Mike Kafka, who tried out for the Steelers on Tuesday. Hoyer, 27, severed as the backup to New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady for the last few seasons, but did not make the Pats' 53-man roster this year. During his three seasons in New England, Hoyer played in just 13 games, mainly in mop-up duty, and completed 63-percent of his pass attempts.

I don't think he severed as Brady's backup.

Good catch. You'd also think they'd learn that when they cut and paste these stories their word processor does not recognize special characters and replaces them with ???
They just don't get that.

He didn't sever anything. He couldn't cut it.
He was a functional backup. One game he came in and completed a couple of nice passes, but it was garbage time. The fact that he was let go with just Mallet behind Brady should tell you something.

If he's not good or bad? It's not good for the Team!

I've never seen Hoyer play, but looking at his stats it seems like he doesn't throw a lot of picks. That's really all we expect out of any QB who is "Not Ben". Just don't make things any worse.
