Barkley plummeting down draft boards

08:05 AM ET 11.21 | For Matt Barkley, what a difference a year has made. When [Barkley] returned to USC for his senior year, it was likely with visions of bagging a national championship and the Heisman Trophy before entering the NFL as the No. 1 pick in next April's draft. However, Barkley's subpar performance in this disappointing season that has ensued is threatening to send him plummeting down draft boards across the league. ... Now, it is important to note that Barkley was not a lock to be a top-10 pick a season ago. In fact, scouts told me last spring that Barkley wasn't a cinch to be the third quarterback in the 2012 draft class, despite having a more impressive collegiate resume than Texas A&M's Ryan Tannehill [and Oklahoma State's Brandon Weeden].

Might not go #1 overall, but still will be a 1st round pick.

Seems like the media is having a hard time finding a QB to hype up this year.

Given the success of Mark Sanchez, Carson Palmer, Matt Leinart, Sean Salisbury, Rodney Peete, Pat Haden, Matt Cassel, Bill Nelsen, Pete Beathard, Vince Evans, Paul McDonald, Todd Marinovich, Rob Johnson AND John David Booty, I'm SHOCKED!
Oh wait, never mind.

It's a pile of over-rated crap.
There are people here STILL trying to convince people that Palmer is any good at all. That's gone from funny to sad at this point.

If all you look at is the trees with dead branches, you will miss the forest. J. Madden said that.

Remember the knock on Rodgers was that he was a QB from Cal and Tedford/Cal QBs were not good NFL QBs. So each player must be looked at individually. BUT I agree. Barkley is so so. Some team will waste 5 years proving he is a second stringer.

USC has given an amazingly bad bunch of QB's over the years given how "great" they are.
Like it was mentioned by Txheat, it's the Clipboard Holders Convention of QB's.

Instead of looking at the things you think a guy cannot do well, it is better to sum up what he can do well and go from there. I suppose that is why Jack Thompson was taken as a QB two rounds ahead of Joe Montana. And honestly, it is coaching at the next level that makes a huge difference.

Yes, Superior, Woeful, and Teblow are pretty awful, but not near the hype machine of USC.
Leinart was thought of as a #1 overall, franchise QB at one point.

OK, but if you ever looked up Phil Sims stats out of college you would never draft him. He threw a lot more ints than tds in college. Not sure just how valuable college stats are.
