08:08 AM ET 11.21 | Doc Rivers, after a practice Tuesday, insisted he did not know the particulars of Rajon Rondo's assist streak, which now stands at 34 straight games. "I don't even know what it is, I swear to gosh," Rivers said. "I have no idea what he's chasing. I just hear that he's got a streak going. Who is he chasing? I don't even know that." Magic Johnson owns the NBA record of 46 straight games with 10-plus assists. Rondo trails John Stockton by three games. Rondo extended the streak in Sunday's 103-83 loss to the Pistons. Rondo recorded his 10th assist with 51 seconds left in the game. The streak would have ended had Rivers not sent Rondo back out in fourth-quarter garbage time. "We were getting blown out, and I just told him, 'Stay in and get it.'"

That's his punishment for swearing to "gosh".

Great job in making it a big deal instead of keeping it hush hush.

Let alone sending the guy back out in garbage time to keep a record going.

If Rondo were to have torn an ACL or had some serious injury during that time, they would have never heard the end of it and rightfully so.

The Celts can chase personal records all they want. They are not even the best team in their own division.

1) I'm surprised I'm just now hearing about the streak. 2) I hope this can FINALLY put to bed the smack talk on Rondo not being an elite point guard. You may not like Boston, but clearly this man is one of the top guards in the league today.

Rondo isn't an elite PG.

Why not? What keeps him from the tier with Rose, CP3, D-Will, Nash (when healthy), Parker and Westbrook? Or do you consider those the top tier PGs?

QUOTE(#10):

Unlike them, Rondo doesn't make his team mates better with the exception of perhaps causing an opposing team to focus on him (at times) which allows the other guys some freedom. In other words, the only way players look better when playing with Rondo is if their better play happens to become a by product of something Rondo is doing for himself.I'm not saying he's not a really good player. He can play his behind off. He's just not what I would consider an "elite PG" to be based on what I've come to understand that term to mean.

WoW, dude besides cp3 there isnt a pg i would pick before rondo. He doesn't make his team better?? You then followed that with he gets people open from his attention. Well if you sucked doesn't matter how much u dribble the ball u have to be very good to demand double teams. Even better to make assist of the double's. Let's not forget he's a triple double waiting to happen in the playoffs. Rondo is definately an elite pg in this league.

The only PG on this list that isn't better than Rondo is Nash, even when healthy. Its a toss up between him and Westbrook, RW is a outta control non thinker, Rondo is just plain bogu at the ft line and as a jump shooter. CPS, Parker and D-Will are just plain and simple better than Rondo!

lol-lol d-will better then rondo??? What games do you watch? When did d-will with all those good utah teams ever take over playoff series?? When has d-will ever dam near avg a triple double for a series? You must of missed rondo being the reason celtics even make 7 games against miami last year. D-will is no wear close a pg rondo is. Thats a silly statement. The body of work or talent doesnt even suggest that.

Rondo is a good player but he is not and never will be John Stockton or Magic whether the C's go all out to get him this record or not.

November 21, 2012  11:31 AM ET

I think Rondo is a Great PG, but no one one is Magic, who I consider better then..*gasp*..Jordan.
And that comes from a Life long Celtic fan. I guess it all about opinion.

John Stockton would have never gone back in for a personal record.....Jerry would have never put him back in......team first

Man, you're way off. Malone was a great player but who else? Bryon Russell is on par with Trevor Ariza. Jeff Hornacek would have been like a current day Ray Allen....all shot, nothing else. Who else; Howard Isley, SHanden Anderson, Greg Ostertag? ROndo's teams were way better than stockton's teams in Utah. Utah had Karl, Stockton and Jerry...that's it!

yea jeff is the modern day ray allen, then you got 2 hall of famers stockon, malone= wade labron. byrun russel gave u the same productivity that bosh gives u actually better defence. Ostertag is better then joel anthony or any center miami had shanden is as good as any role player miami had. same deal with d-will all his utah teams where better then 1 and done playoff apperances. Rondo is way better then u give him credit for. Hands down an elite pg in this league. not many players, d-will included could quarter back this old **** celtic team like rondo does. the kid is the truth
