Wilpon: Trading Wright and Dickey a 'third preference'

08:13 AM ET 11.21 | Jeff Wilpon went "there." Wilpon invoked the dreaded "T" word Tuesday when discussing pitcher R.A. Dickey and, gulp, franchise face David Wright. But before the Flushing faithful should fear any pre-Thanksgiving indigestion, the Mets' COO said trading Dickey and Wright remained the third option behind more desirable solutions. Wilpon said "the first preference" was to sign both the 2012 NL Cy Young winner and third baseman to long-term extensions. The Mets already exercised Dickey's and Wright's 2013 contract options last month -- $16 million for Wright, $5 million for the knuckleball pitcher. "The second preference is probably to keep them and have them play out the season," added Wilpon. "Third preference would be to trade them."

The Winter Meetings are in two weeks and the Mets should try and trade Wright for prospects, because they are not going to win with him anyway.

Wrong. Let's see what Middlebrooks can do. Wright seems like he gets hurt a lot, and is going to cost a lot of money. The Sox can use that money elsewhere, especially for pitching.

Now you know why we are in the predicament we are in....Jeff Wilpon is a moron....you were 14 games under .500 with Wright and Dickey......unload them now for some bonafide young talent to add to Harvey,Niese,Gee,Tejada,Davis.......if they sign both these guys it will be a waste of money they don't have.....C'Mon Sandy ...show me the "Moneyball"....

Spending money isn't the cure all......if they are smart ...they will build the farm systems...and just let the players flow through the system.....once they are in the league 5 years and are free agent eligible have someone ready to go to take their place...that way your never bogged down with his money contracts....you pick and choose your spots who you keep....see Oakland...see Tampa.....you DO NOT have to spend hundreds of millions of dollars to put a real good team on the field....
