Zetterberg may miss All-Star game

Henrik Zetterberg's aching back might cause him to miss Sunday's All-Star Game. Zetterberg sat out practice Monday and is questionable for tonight's game against the Kings. Zetterberg has missed five games this season (back ailment) and missed the final 19 last season (inflamed disc). The Wings will be careful with their leading scorer (61 points). That could mean Zetterberg will miss the All-Star Game for the second consecutive season.

This kid doesn't care anywhere near as much about making an All Star appearance as he does about winning it all. He'll sit out, get a good week off without missing any game time, and come back good to go. Maybe even take the last week of the season of again, to save himself for the playoffs like he did last year, and he'll tear it up. He's been a great player already for a number of years, but his focus is on another level this year, after getting a taste of playoff success last year. Watch for him to sit out, and come back from the break as good as ever - I'll go out on a limb here (and maybe my Red Wings bias is involved, but...) and say that this guy is the best all around, 2- way forward in the league right now

All Star game is only gaves the best head . Oh that's baseball all star game.

he doesn,t need to play in the game, it,s crap anyway. it,s pretty stupid when the skills competition is more fun to watch, then this game.as i said in another blog, they( jackarse bettman), needs to make this game meaningful.any player that has a minor injury, should be taking this time to heal, to help his team out.how many people know, let alone care, about who won last years game?

January 22, 2008  01:24 PM ET

Oh no, no bias there-zetterberg best?
i personally go with Iginla.hell i can be bias too-what about mike richards??

January 22, 2008  02:26 PM ET

I'm willing to bet we'll see Zetterberg walk home with a Selke (best defensive forward) before Iginla, Heatley or Crosby, boys

January 22, 2008  04:33 PM ET

Iginla is awesome, bostongm, I love the guy (and Detroit made up for it last year - when they tuned Calgary in the playoffs...you can't keep giving credit for things done years ago, can you?), but when you are a Top 10 scorer in the league AND win the Selke, it makes you pretty all-around, in my books. Not sure, correct me if I'm wrong....

thank god you,re not putting their names in for the LADY byng.think they should give that to wellwood hands down.lol

I'll accept that, bostongm, but one last point: Zetterberg may not be as physical as Iginla, but he is so good at knocking the puck off players' sticks with his own that physicality is almost unnecessary. I love physical hockey, but Zetterberg gets the job done without flash (like Lidstrom, who gets HIS kudos). Iggy may be more physical, but is he more effective? Tough to say...
