Less than a week after Jose Canseco lost a publisher for "Vindicated," his follow-up book to the controversial 2005 best-seller "Juiced: Wild Times, Rampant 'Roids, Smash Hits and How Baseball Got Big," a new publisher, Simon Spotlight Entertainment, has picked up the book and will publish it in time for opening day.

Didn't we see this story about a week or so ago? Is T&R getting that desperate for stories they need to rehash the old ones?

Since we do not have a McNAmme or a Clmens thread today I reckon this wil have t oseve as my forum for the folowing fro mtoday's NY Daily News:

"According to Dr. Gary Wadler, a World Anti-Doping Agency member, lidocaine would not be used with anabolic steroids, and is more often administered 'in conjunction with somebody having a cortisone shot.'

'Say you have a bad elbow or a bad shoulder. The tendons, joints, the various structures around the affected joint - you would probably give an anti-inflammatory, like cortisone, and a local anasthetic (like lidocaine) at the same time. The local anasthetic is to make the injection of cortisone less painful and to decrease the pain associated with the injury,' Wadler said. 'Lidocaine, you can also use in cardiology, intravenously for heart rhythm disturbances. That's where it gets dangerous.'

Dr. Todd Schlifstein, an assistant professor at NYU Medical Center and steroid expert, told the Daily News that lidocaine 'is only injected by a doctor. And you wouldn't get lidocaine without a prescription. I don't think a trainer would ever be doing that kind of injection.'

One of the members of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-District of Columbia), told The News last week that 'you can count on' the committee members seeking medical experts to provide information on lidocaine and B-12.

According to a sports medicine physician, McNamee and Clemens also might be asked by Congress specifically how injections were administered.

'It takes a good five minutes to prep and find the landmark for a lidocaine injection,' the physician said. 'And lidocaine only lasts one to two hours. If he (Clemens) got them before a game, the Yankee doctors and trainers would have seen (McNamee) giving the injections in the clubhouse.'

Gee, Rog, anything you would like to rehtink before you get up before Congress, now? If you are going to spout out supposed facts then you should at least do your home work before spouting out the alleged facts. No?

I think when Jose first came out with his accusations he was sincere however, after listening to some of his current interviews I think he is getting a little(lot) full of himself. Don't know if his credibility is the same as in the past. I wouldn't buy this latest book !!!

January 22, 2008  10:19 AM ET

hell, I didn't buy his first book. Why? It got excerpted, (is that the correct word?), in the funny papers enough when it came out and so will this book, too. Mr. Canseco always was very full of himself. Nothing has changed. If he has facts that eventually can be verified with corrobarating info from other sources then his credibility wil be verified. If not, then he goes back to being yesterday's news. It still will not diminish the impteus of the ball that he initally started rolling on the issue of PEDs in baseball.

What players that he named have celared their names? Uh, none... some showed up in the Mitchell Report.

Jose looks like Kraemer in the episode when he picks up smoking and ends up on the billboard in Times Square. "I look like a catcher's mitt. Look away. I'm hideous."

January 22, 2008  11:04 AM ET

We LOVE Jose! WE LOVE HIM!

Interesting read on the lidocaine 4192. Rocket is in serious trouble. Serious.

I'll probably buy this book, as I'm interested in the response from the media and fellow players after Juiced was released. Jose will list the guys that left nasty voice mails on his phone. That should be interesting in itself.

January 22, 2008  11:14 AM ET

Jose is such a tool, I saw him on Pros Vs. Joes and I don't think I've seen a more prototypical dumb jock. I don't know how he wrote his first book, let alone someone allowing him to write a second?!

snitch.

January 22, 2008  01:08 PM ET

I really hate the words rat and snitch. It is one of the reasons why there is a pervasive undermining of deceny and fair play in this world of ours and one of the reasons why things usually go to hell in a handbasket before any corrective action is taken to fix the problems. People are discouraged to speak out because they are squealing. People who expose things that are wrong are looked down upon as if they should let the wrongs continue unabated. They become the lower class of people instead of the wrong and immoral people they are exposing. Yeah, I know sometimes the exposers themselves are either dirty or were dirty but that doesn't mean they should just shut up and let the BS continue. I do not like Canseco and I think he is a jerk but if it takes him being the one to begin to shed some light on the issue of PEDs in MLB then so be it.
