08:15 AM ET 11.22 | Just how much longer will Roy Halladay be pitching for Philly? Before Halladay's shoulder started acting up in midseason, the Phillies had actually had some preliminary talks with his agent, Greg Landry, about an extension that would keep Halladay in Philadelphia beyond next year -- and bring his salary more in line with the $24 million average annual value of Cliff Lee's deal. But Halladay's shoulder -- and the Phillies -- put an end to those talks. ... Now, unless that extension talk resurfaces, Halladay will almost certainly become a free agent next winter. He'd need to bounce back from shoulder surgery and grind through 258 2/3 innings next year to vest his $20 million option for 2014.

Let's talk about this next winter!!!!!!

Halladay was well worth the money the Phils gave him which in return help bring championships to Pilly, but if I am them looking at that option for 14, I am looking at his age, his health, and if my club is winning. If all these are negative I am saying to Roy, thanks for the memories see you.

Agreed. I would even be looking to deal Roy now, but questions may persist about his health. This guy can be a stud.

he got out of the jays organization because,,,, he didn't like the chemistry and the money was too little for him, halladay would likely retire as a phillie,,,,

November 22, 2012  11:44 AM ET

the phillies would be too rude to just let halladay walk away, something like this wont happen!!

If they have fallen out of the race by then, I suspect you are right. But the Phils look like they are likely to be contenders in the NL East.

That would be awesome ! He certainly cannot be any worse for the Jays then Romero was thats for sure ! Roy is a hardcore and focused training machine. If anyone can bounce back-he can.

Like Kuroda, The Yankees will probably offer him a 1 Year Deal when his time is up, Why not The Phillies, it's not about the money with this Guy, He loves Philadelphia!!!!!

Halladay had 12 great years in Toronto. He would have stayed but the Jays were re-building. Now that the Jays are rebuilt, Halladay might be just the piece to get them to the World Series. If the Jays are contenders in July, it won't surprise me if they bring back #32 (That was hs Jays #) for a stretch run.
