08:16 AM ET 11.22 | Outfielder Jonny Gomes has 10 million reasons to be more thankful this Thanksgiving. The Chronicle has learned that [Gomes] has agreed to a two-year, $10 million contract with Boston, but the deal won't be official for another day or two upon completion of the physical and some paperwork. That's about double what the A's had offered Gomes when they gave him a two-year extension proposal in September. A number of contenders were interested in Gomes, who played a substantial role in Oakland's terrific 2012 season. A Red Sox exec told me recently that Boston thinks highly of Gomes' leadership abilities. ... Along with his strong clubhouse presence, Gomes contributed on the field, with an impressive 18 homers in fewer than 300 at-bats.

Well, Boston IS gonna need leadership after hiring a manager who couldn't lead a McDonalds.

Show me a team full of players who meed a manager to motivate and lead them, and I'll show you a team full of losers.

gomes could finally become a every day player in boston's lineup and why not?? i mean the guy proved in the oakland coliceum and in different stadiums , he can hit and can be a productive player,,,,

As a Sox fan, I am highly skeptical of this signing. Yes, I can see Gomes banging some shots off the wall, but...he's a part time player.

gomes could surprise everybody by playing in every game at the red sox team,,,
i mean he hit 262avg, drove 50 R,B,I,S and hit 18 homeruns in only 300 at bats?? that should do the trick,,,

55 million per year isn't much, plus they can do with him what Oakland planned to do--trade him at the deadline for young suspects to a team that needs a right-handed power bat.

the red sox are expecting gomes to perform at redick level, produse as many runs as many r,b,i,s,,

November 22, 2012  09:10 PM ET

josh reddick got a good production for the A's, as it looks the red sox are searching for the same results from gomes in their team's lineup!!

November 22, 2012  09:16 PM ET

lets not forget the A's have outstanding team work.seth smith/ Cespedes/ brandon moss/gomez/coco crisp/brandon inge/and the pitching rotation and relievers, it was just awesome, there wasn't a each of greed in this A's team at all!!

I won't forget. I'll never forget.

November 22, 2012  09:23 PM ET

brandon McCARTHY/ tommy millone/brett anderson/travis blackley/ bartolo colon/A.J griffin/jarrod parker/dan straily/ plus all the A's relievers were just too disciplined in their bullpen!!

November 22, 2012  09:25 PM ET

i think aside from needing a tough offensive lineup, the red sox should get their coaching staff in the right gear to say the least!!!

the A's have great team work plus they showed alot in their humble approach at the plate and in the mound, this A's team succesfull season was all thanks to the good work at the coaching staff, chili davis/ and rickey henderson were a tough duo on their spots as hitting coach and bench coach!!

November 22, 2012  09:32 PM ET

its chris young replacing gomez? or he would be a part timer in their outfield?? coco crisp and josh reddick plus joenis Cespedes are a tough outfielders just to name a few!!!

i hope the A'S be able to repeat or at least have a decent season,, the team was great already in the regular season but to blow rangers away was +10,,,
