It's an award that is as much forged by unwritten rules, politics and regional biases, as it is bronze. We're entering a weekend that could redefine the trophy in a way not seen since inaugural winner Jay Berwanger's aunt Gussie used it as a doorstop (it's true). A freshman and a linebacker.. ... Barring a major setback Saturday vs. 5-6 Missouri, [Johnny Manziel] should all but wrap up the award. Te'o can lay claim to being his biggest challenger in carrying the Irish to the BCS Championship Game and Lee and Miller have their opportunities, too. It's a weekend that could alter the course of the Heisman like few races in history have.

DC, I can't figure out why Freshman Johhny Manziel is the front runner for the Heisman?? Is it because the Aggies beat Bama??? Hell the Oregon Freshman QB (Marcus Mariota), is just as good as Manziel, actually he has better Stats than Manziel. Is it Because Manziel plays in the SEC. Now I don't have any problems with Te???o winning the Heisman.

Gets back to the whole "best player in CFB" which has usually been a farce IMHO. Usually "best player on a name brand team" is who wins it except for a few situations like last year.
I'd love to see a defensive player win it for a change...and I'm not even a domer homer. But, the voters seem to slanted toward offense, again IMHO.

Hell, I'm a Johnny Manziel fan. I think he's great. I'm just not convinced he's "the best player" in CFB but the article already establishes that's not what the award is about.

Default I did check the stats before I commented at #6. Yes Johnny has a total of 38 combined passing and rushing TDs, compared to Mariota's combined passing and rushing TDs of 32, but Johnny threw one more interception than Mariota and had a 67.7% passing completion, compared to Mariota 69.8%. Do we want get more "Nitpicky"?????? LOL. Happy Thanksgiving :-)
