Moore accuses Canucks of spying
The lawyer for Steve Moore was back in court, seeking to uncover whether the Vancouver Canucks had placed the former NHL player under surveillance in the wake of his 2004 career-ending injury. Tim Danson, who is representing Moore in a $38 million lawsuit against the Canucks and former Vancouver star Todd Bertuzzi, has asked a judge to order the NHL team to provide details of any surveillance done on Moore.

this guy just likes hearing his name in the papers now. I still haven't found out on what grounds he increased his lawsuit from $15 million to $38 million. Now he's grasping at straws, hoping the 'nucks were doing surveillance on him? C'mon, give me a break here. If this guy really wants his money, he had better settle out of court, because if this is how he is hoping to win, he doesn't have much of a chance. Any port in a storm, I guess, but this is pathetic. Maybe this is why Bertuzzi's lawyer offered him a settlement a couple weeks ago for a paltry $250,000 - they know he has no case. Especially since his NHLPA pension takes care of him anyway. Instead of constantly wanting to hear his name on TSN and ESPN, this guy should be looking to settle and move on. Its too bad what happened to him, but with every stunt he's pulled since it happened, he's just made himself look more and more like a greedy punk

if i ever saw him walking in front of me on the streets i'd probably sucker him... kidding obviously... but seriously... no respect at all for the guy, i'm sorry he got injured but i find it pretty hard to sympathize with his cause

Wow, a greedy punk eh goCanada? Maybe he would just like some semblance of a normal life back after that goon Bertuzzi broke his neck. And just because his name surfaces now and then doesn't mean he's intentionally vying for attention, it means that the story is still a prominent one in today's NHL.
Oh and greedy? How about that low-life Bertuzzi offering him 250,000...and then not shaking his hand when he turned it down....class act that Todd is.
Here Steve, sorry I broke your neck, here's a fraction of what you would have made in a year. Oh you don't like it? **** then...

First off, Bertuzzi CONTINUES to try to meet with Moore in person, and has been trying since the incident occurred, and Moore keeps denying him the opportunity to apologize in person. Tough to shake a man's hand when he refuses to be around you. The 1/4 million dollar offer WAS a bit of a slap in the face, but again, I think it was more indicative of how weak Moore's case is. A semblance of a normal life? He's walking, doing everything but playing hockey now...and its not like he was going to be a regular in the league anyway, so to say he deserves $38 million is a little over the top, and greedy, in my eyes.
Also, by definition, a goon is a skater who really can't play the game, but is out there for his physicality and fighting - Bertuzzi was one of the best hockey players in the world when this happened.

He got spied on, whether it was from Bert or not, but the Toronto Sun reported that it happened. He most likely would have been a 3rd/4th line guy sure, but that still means he would have made six-figures for his career, and now nothing. What is he supposed to do? Your opinion is that he is greedy, my opinion is that he deserves it. I guess we agree to disagree.
Anybody who intentionally injures someone is a goon, I don't care if he scores 50, when you mug someone on the ice and break their neck...your a goon.

why doesnt anyone raise that fact that after bertuzzi suckered moore like 6 guys dog piled onto Moore's neck?? i mean bert obviouslys crewed up, but did the punch break his neck or the extra 1000 pounds ontop of his spine? its not like bertuzzi pre meditated breaking his neck. and Moore was never goign to be a solid NHL player, just like his brother Dominic Moore who cant even crack the Maples Leafs lineup. Lets pretend Moore was going to last in the league for ten years. that 38 million would have to compare to an average of 3.8 million dollars a season. Patrick Sharp of the Blackhawks just signed a multi year deal averaging about that much money per season. but he has over 20 goals this season already. on pace for about 30-35 goals. Moore was never going to put up those kinds of numbers, thus making it impossible for him to make that kind of cash. you could even look at the salary cap and salary inflation over the next ten years and he probably still wouldnt make that kind of money. the fact is that it was one punch. and Moore got hurt. but thats the risk you take everytime ur on the ice. just like everytime a guy blocks a shot, takes a check or just plain gets snagged and rips his ACL or MCL. Are we going to see a guy block a shot, get hurt and then blame the guy who shot it? i know its different than a sucker punch, but thats the route we are taking as society. everytime someone gets hurt, sue the other guy and try to make money off of it. some player gets hit cleanly and suddenly he is suing the league for 'emotional damages'. screw that. Moore is greedy. im certain he would keep most of that money for his own wallet. IF he truely cared, assuming he wins the case, he would donate much of that money to childrens hospitals with spinal injuries, or start a foundation or speak publicly against spinal injuries. but he is laying low cowering in a corner waiting for someone to feel sorry for him. oh and scott neidermeyer once two hand slashed another player in the head. is he a goon??

JimmySmitts said it well - and the only reason I am not going through it all is that I have already done so on this forum so many times, I'm sure everyone is tired of me saying it...but Smitts covered it nicely.
I wouldn't have an issue with 10 mill or less, truth be told, but it was $15 million to start, and, all of a sudden, he decides he wants to change it to $38 million?!?
Bentley - you should know better than to expect the truth out of the Sun, the National Enquirer of Canada's newspapers. I wouldn't believe ELECTION results from that source, haha. And to say he would have been a 3rd or 4th liner is too generous, Moore would have been an AHL player until he quit hockey to use whatever degree he got at Harvard.
4thstreet - I'm not answering the doors for anyone I don't know for the next 2 weeks - I'm not looking to get served the papers for THAT lawsuit!!!

Bert is a goon, waste of space on team canada and a shame we ever let him on our team. Moore deserves compensation for sure. Let us not forget that bert is a repeat offender and should not be playing in the NHL.

alll i have to say is i'm happy for bertuzzi, finally seems to be having fun again and is playing awesome... can't we all just appreciate that? haha... i love it, oh and neidermayer on the all star team? i'm a huge fan, but thats as ridiculus as people suggesting moore would have stuck in the leauge for anywhere near 10 years

Wow a bit harsh on Bert aren't we?
Moore's case is indeed weak.
-Did Bertuzzi break his neck or was it the massive pileup afterwards.
-Would he have a broken neck had he turned around and engaged Bertuzzi.
-It's safe to say that Bertuzzi wanted to fight him but did he really go out intent on BREAKING his neck? that's a stretch.
-If Bert is a goon who shoudl be barred from the NHL for life, what about Pronger, Simon, Downie, Brashear...? They're all repeat offenders.
-Moore has never claimed to be permanently disabled. Why?
-According to the quirky "NHL code", did Moore invite the situation had he not
gone after Naslund?
-Moore was drafted in 1998 and played only 69 games in the NHL from 2001 to 2004, scoring 5 goals. Does that sound like a $38million dollar player?
He would have to prove that he's worth more than that and $38Mil. is compensation for his injury and not his actual worth.
I feel for the guy but I just think he's pissed at having his career being cut short and wants someone to pay bigtime. The Nhl is full of guy s that have never reached their potential due to injury (Brett Lindros, Bobby Orr, Dan Blackburn) and Moore is one of them.
Sadly, Boston's Patrice Bergeron could be the latest one.

Sorry, I meant to say Toronto Star, and the link is to the right of this article actually. You should have a read, sounds fairly factual to me.
Was a being a little generous making him a 3rd or 4th liner? possibly...the truth is we never got to find out because Bert attacked him and ended his career - that's the point I'm making here. Did other players fall on them? Of course...would they have if Bert hadn't of brought him to the ground in the first place? Probably not.
38 Million a little much? maybe, your opinion...not mine. Calling him a 'little greedy punk' though is pretty out of line, I mean come on the kid had his dream taken away from him, and your giving him hell for suing over it? I find it a little easier to feel sorry for Moore then Bertuzzi that's for sure.

I always wanted to play hockey too but I can't skate, shoot , or fight on skates so who do I sue for taking away MY DREAM? Moore knew he had it coming for what he did to Markus Naslund. According to the unwritten rules of hockey, goons fight goons and people at the level of Moore fight people at the level of Bertuzzi. Moore kept ducking the fight and Yes Bertuzzi did sucker punch him but imho the ice did the damage and if Moore had his helmet on correctly he would have been fine. The problem here is trying to take the hockey out of hockey and into the courtroom.

Wow, think I struck a nerve! Hey bostongm, calm down and crawl back in your mom's basement. Just like Steve Moore any punk who types in all caps deserves what he gets when he goes out and cheep shots someone and then won't live up to it later and do the right thing.
