Accuser: Bush picked out home

Reggie Bush helped pick out a house that a would-be sports marketer bought for his family to live in while he was playing at USC, according to a television report that will air tonight. In an interview for a segment of HBO's "Real Sports With Bryant Gumbel," Lloyd Lake says Bush, the 2005 Heisman Trophy winner, visited and then requested the purchase of a San Diego-area home that Lake's partner eventually bought. Part of the segment was taped in the driveway of the Spring Valley home where Bush's family allegedly lived rent-free. Michael Michaels, who was Lake's business partner, purchased the home. Bush and his family are under investigation by the NCAA for allegedly receiving extra benefits from marketing agents during the 2004 and 2005 seasons. The New Orleans Saints running back has maintained that he and his family did nothing wrong.

Bust or Busted? Maybe both. Stecker is ten times the running back Bush is

I think Bush and his family did take money. But if they did, so what? College sports is nothing more than a business right now. I saw OJ Mayo with courtside seats for the Lakers game last night...wonder why he got those? The NCAA can't police every student that plays sports.

Arrogant Trojan fans in denial.......LMFAO. Everyone knows the big football factories cheat, and this kind of thing has been going on at USC for decades. OJ Simpson had a part time job turning on the sprinklers before he went out, ostensibly to class, and was paid handsomely for it. And so much for SC's entrance "requirements". Hell, they'll let anyone in as long as they can understand Student Body Left, and Student Body Right; then they'll spout on about their academic standards. What a hypocrisy and sleaze the entire NCAA is.

USC is not a public school. We do have academic standards. Every year we lose a recruit or two plus at least one player gets booted out of SC for not meeting academic requirements. Get your facts straight before you make claims. Rookie.

Well Peter King must be an idiot too considering he wrote in his weekly monday morning quarterback column "G. Aaron Stecker's a better every-down-type back than Reggie Bush. No doubt. Monday December 17, 2007" Shove it and Stecker is from Ashwaubenon the same place I am from so I am biased

I know quite a few public schools who's academic standards for athletes are MUCH higher than USC's.......way to not know what you are talking about

January 23, 2008  06:49 AM ET

whats the big deal. they don't have any hard proof. besides how much revenue do these athletes provide for the school. enough to pay for their scholarships ten fold. They get millions just to go to a bowl game., shoe contracts for the school, jersey endorsements and all the free publicity from these kids, coaches get TV deals. money is every where. all major programs cheat in some form or fassion. there is too much money involved for these guys not to push the envelope. These kids know they are one serious injury away from working at Mcdonalds, so they want to cash in while they can. most could care less about the education. The NCAA is the Developemental league for the NFL.

January 23, 2008  11:10 AM ET

vaughn, the big deal is that some schools have been punished for having peripheral players receive incidental amounts of cash. The NCAA needs to hold all schools to the same standard, or to no standard. They can't pick and choose.

Wrong, the four public schools with higher undergraduate rankings, Cal, UCLA, UM and UVA all have lower academic requirements than USC for special needs students (ie athletes), including GPAs, core class credits and standardized test scores. You have no clue of what you're talking about. Good try, but quiet now, the big boys are talking.

K....Let Mr. BUSH, ...PICK ANOTHER HOUSE!!!...lol

January 23, 2008  09:42 PM ET

The big deal is that accepting money and gifts is against the rules. When your kids do something wrong and use the "But everybody does it." defense, do you accept that?

How much money the school makes off football is irrelevent. And they don't produce ten fold times their scholarship amounts since most programs are in the red. But again, that is irrelevent. When adults can find so many ways to rationalize dishonesty(which is what this is), it's no wonder our kids grow up thinking there is no such thing as right and wrong.
