11:37 AM ET 11.22 | San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh has informed incumbent starter Alex Smith that Colin Kaepernick will be under center as the team heads to the Mercedes-Benz Superdome to take on the New Orleans Saints on Sunday, according to Sports Illustrated's Jim Trotter. The decision, which according to the report is not based on health, comes after a controversy arose when Harbaugh told reporters he would go with whichever quarterback had the "hot hand" following the Niners' 32-7 rout of the Chicago Bears on Monday night.

They should have a turkey-carving contest to see who has the hot hand.

Hairbag is going to regret his controversy.

Mercedes-Benz Superdome seems insulting a little.

Alex Smith is "limited".

Might as well see what Colin can do.

And that's all it takes to lose your starting job. That didn't take long

He's happy he doesn't have the Cardinals Controversy. Or the Chiefs Conundrum. Either of those teams would kill to have Alex Smith. But then, they'd kill him with bad pass blocking.

This is not a lucky year for quarterbacks. The Superbowl could be a game of Last Quarterback Standing. And that could be Alex Smith.

I think we kind of did Otis.......cannot blame the Coach for liking what he saw.

QUOTE(#8):

If you are going to make the switch right now would make perfect sense. Worse case scenario the Niners have a good back up if this experiment goes wrong, but I like the move. It happened with Green-Warner and Bledsoe-Brady, and the results turned out with a SB win.

Green and Bledsoe were both out with season ending injuries, a somewhat different situation

Bledsoe was ready before the season ended and even played in relief of an injured Brady against Pittsburgh in the playoffs . Brady was back under center the for the next game and Drew, who couldn't have been happy about losing his job while he was hurt was truly professional about it, never complaining once.

Doesn't matter who qb's the 49ers...the manly men of the whodats going to whip the sissies...37-10...

NO has only beaten 1 team with a defense and they cannot play D themselves. Any team that's got a strong D and a good offense will win. SF will win by at least 10.
