Red Sox in talks with Mike Napoli

09:23 PM ET 11.22 | Free agent catcher Mike Napoli is negotiating with the Boston Red Sox according to ESPN's Jim Bowden. The idea of Napoli in Boston is one that makes a ton of sense. The Red Sox have an opening at first base, which is really where Napoli should be playing going forward. If he's a catcher, it might not make a ton of sense to hand him four years, but he can play first base for a couple seasons and then slide to DH if, and when, David Ortiz vacates the roster.

Another old guy for Boston; he can fight Swisher and Gomes for the rocking chair. I wonder if this report is true--it doesn't seem to make a lot of sense. Why, if the Red Sox signed right handed catcher Ross, and right handed outfielder/dh Gomes, would they sign another right handed C/DH? Maybe they are stockpiling guys to trade mid-season for suspects?
