08:05 AM ET 11.23 | Former NBA All-Star Michael Finley may not be ready for that second career just yet. [Finley] is putting his front-office career on hold in hopes of extending his playing career, according to sources with knowledge of his plans. Sources told ESPN that Finley, after participating in NBA pickup games all summer, continues to work out vigorously in pursuit of a contract that would give him one more run as an NBA player before shifting his focus to front-office work. Late last spring, Finley began quietly working as an untitled but prominent member of the Dallas Mavericks' front-office team. The 39-year-old quickly convinced Mavericks owner Mark Cuban that he has promise as an executive.

Don't do it. You retired for a reason. You've given the game all you could. Go and become a great front office guy.

I've always like Finley's game.....since he was a high-schooler.

But.....I gotta agree with ya on this one. He'd just be the small forward version of Kurt Thomas at this point.....

I'd take him back as an assistant coach but that's about it...

Fin has already played the role of team elder statesman. He had limited minutes with the Spurs due to declining skills. He wanted more so he went to Boston, but the Celtics ultimately decided the same thing. He was a great player for part of his career, and a good one for just about all of it. But I think he should take the FO job.
