Philly ready to act soon on top priority

08:13 AM ET 11.23 | B.J. Upton admitted last week via Twitter that he was "blown away" by the interest some teams had in him. "Can't wait to see how this pans out. #intrigued" The modern hot stove is reduced to a hash tag, and the sentiment extends beyond Upton's 64,000 Twitter followers. The Phillies and Braves have both identified Upton as a priority, possibly their top target. That each team entertained Upton on a visit, which included a tour and meeting with the manager, demonstrated real interest. And so the posturing commences. Numerous agents and executives who have spoken with the Phillies say everything else is on hold until they sign a centerfielder. Thus, the winter has rolled to a slow start with the possibility of heating up rather quickly.

The Phillies need Upton more than the Braves, and have shown a history of being willing to spend, so I say he signs in the City of Brotherly Love.
Atlanta better work on Bourn, Pagan, or deal for Span.

might be possible to get both pagan and span, one via trade maybe...IF the payroll is flexible enough.

I can see Bourn in Phillies pen stripes, and if it happens along comes Upton. to join him.

That would mean Atlanta replaced Chipper Jones and Bourne with Pagan and Upton--would they have enough offense? I think they need to find a middle of the lineup hitter to replace Jones, and if Bourne walks they need a lead-off hitter.

the phillies have alot salary relieve, the braves trying to appear in confortable zone but who ever has the best deal and best offer could get the outfielder it wont be easy because there should be tought competetition in the bidding, though phillies have better experience in doing long term deals!!

my guess its, if either team is unable to sign bj upton most likely they would turn the page and focus in another battle for JOSH HAMILTON!!

maybe the phillies could be excluded from hamilton bidding but the braves are likely to go after him IF unable to pull a deal for BJ UPTONz!!

bourn its too expensive plus boras appears to be the agent's player, angel pagan its a little too old to even qualify for a long term deal, on pagan a 2 years deal would be a fair call, plain and simple,,,

now on the braves situation in their OF, the price for bourn could be too hefty, about pagan age is more than just a simple issue, span would be the right player to be on the braves roster and that's only IF the braves are willing to send top prospects to the twinsm , my guess? doubtfull!!

Seems to me that Upton is the play in Philly. I can't see going after Bourne who is only a year younger than Victorino (who I would have rather kept over Bourne). So that would give us Mayberry (LF), Upton (CF), and Brown (RF). Not bad except that Charlie has had reservations about Mayberry and believes Brown needs seasoning... Not a bad outfield so long as they can hit.

I can see them re-signing Victorino if they lose out on Upton.

thats absolutely not true..the braves desperately need upton, because the braves dont have anyone in the minors that is even remotely close to being ready to take over in center for bourn the phillies can always call darrin ruf up from the minors and it will cost them far less than it would to sign upton
