08:21 AM ET 11.23 | Growing up, Brad Richards didn't much know much about life in the city. [Richards], the son of lobster fishers in Prince Edward Island, joined the Rangers just 17 months ago, but he is definitely a New Yorker now. In the days after Hurricane Sandy, he has been a frequent volunteer in hard-hit parts of the city, gutting flood-damaged homes in Queens and helping to organize a benefit hockey clinic on Staten Island. It is work he has let others speak for, work he has not wanted treated like a celebrity photo opportunity. On Saturday, Richards will help make a public contribution, serving as a team captain in a charity game in Atlantic City to benefit families affected by the hurricane.

Thanks Brad. A much welcomed ray of sunshine in the cesspool that is the NHL.

as an aside...he grew as the son of a lobster fisherman. He probably used to get sick & tired of eating lobster...if that it possible.

So growing up in PEI means you know nothing of city life...what a joke!
And back in the day, lobster was only fed to the servants, the kids, the jailbirds, etc...my how times change.

amazing that back in the heyday of the fishing industry they had unlimited access to oysters, lobster, crabs, squid...it was also considered third rate junk... most of my old mans relatives in Newfoundland still dont eat that stuff, old habits die hard.

Brad chose to lead by example and do something useful with his free time. I salute him. All the others might want to get their heads out of their own arses, quit whining and help those who are still hurting. It might give them a little bit of a perspective on how fortunate they are.

There are only 30 owners and most of them are old farts who can barely walk. There are hundreds of young, strong, healthy players sitting around doing nothing but pissing off their loved ones.
