04:35 PM ET 11.23 | On Friday, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Alex Smith (concussion) practiced in a black non-contact jersey. Coupled with the news that broke Thursday evening via SI.com's Jim Trotter, it's pretty clear that Smith will not start in Week 12. On Sunday, fans can expect second-year passer Colin Kaepernick to start behind center for the 49ers. It will be his second ever career start, and first ever road start.

the niners have the flexibility do this, so why not give smith more time to heal and continue to give valuable reps during an actual game for kaeps.

It's not like Smith hasn't been practicing. He has just been wearing the black ( NO CONTACT ) jersey for the past 2 weeks.

I heard some N.O. defensive player say that they were not going to prepare for either QB and thought of them as the same player only in different uniforms. That is the kind of mind set that will lose games.

Kaepernick might not be the next Lou Gehrig but Smith could be this decade's Bledsoe. Put a fork in AS he's all done.
