10:40 AM ET 11.25 | Texas Rangers general manager Jon Daniels said on Friday the "lines of communication remain open" with free-agent catcher-first baseman Mike Napoli. According to several reports, Napoli and his representative, Brian Grieper, are meeting with the Boston Red Sox this weekend and are expected to have a similar session with the Seattle Mariners before the winter meetings begin on Dec. 3 in Nashville, Tenn. As is the case with outfielder Josh Hamilton, another of their high-profile free agents, the Rangers are letting Napoli explore the market before having definitive talks with him. The sides are likely to get together during the winter meetings. Both Boston and Seattle envision Napoli as a first baseman-designated hitter with some time at catcher. Napoli's right-handed power appeals to both clubs.

He has good power when he's healthy, but he's an average player outside of one great year in Texas. He strikes out too much and is below average in the field. Fine if he's a catcher, but you'd want more out of first base. You'd certainly want someone who can play at least 150 games in a season, something Napoli has never done.

napoli top priority should be AVOID INJURIES/INJURIES, the hard injuries usually takes napoli out of any productive run in any lineup,,,

rangers should give napoli a 5 yeasrs 100,million deal, the advantage is for rangers, napoli has played in post-season and regular in texas, so rangers have the knowledge about napoli stats plus he plays very well against the lowly halos,, what else the rangers should need??

DH is some position where napoli played at rangers team, but if playing DH helps napoli avoid injuries,, then any team WHO sign him could pull the right deal!!!

It seems a little odd. Seattle has not only Montero, but they picked up John Jaso from TB, who was about their best hitter last year, and the have last year's top draft pick Zunio who looks like he will probably be ready this year. If they are serious about Napoli and not just blowing smoke to worry the Rangers, then I would guess Napoli would be mostly Right handed1b 9with Carp being the left handed 1b, and right handed DH (with Jaso being the LH DH.) He could mentor the young catchers. And he wouldn't be playing for Texas any more.

Napoli would be best as a part-time catcher, occasional 1B, and DH for about 100 games. Boston, Seattle, Texas...I'm not sure any of those teams fit.
I guess one of those teams is looking at him for 1B full time or part time.

Bingo. Nothing special about this guy. Giving him a lot of coin would be a mistake.
