Would Mike Napoli fit in Seattle?

01:51 AM ET 11.26 | Multiple sources have mentioned that the Seattle Mariners are interested in Mike Napoli. His power and on-base ability make him an attractive option as a backstop, but he's not without his faults. The Mariners aren't the only team going after him, so that could force them to commit either more money or an extra year. How does that fit within Seattle's plan and who else might they need to go after even if they sign him?

He should do just great in a pitcher's park like Safeco. Sarcasm intended.

Supposedly they are bringing the fences in; otherwise that park is death on right-handed power hitters. Also they have several good young catchers who need work behind the plate--Montero and Jaso from last year, plus top draft choice Zunio looks like he will be ready to try the big league this year.

Napoli might make sense as a RH 1b, and RH DH. Maybe as a mentor to the young catchers. I don't think that is the role he is looking for; I think he wants to play more at C. So I don't think this deal will happen.

Don't the Mariners already a Mike Napoli-type in Jesus Montero?

They thought that was what they were getting, but it turns out that Montero only hits when he is catching; when he DH's he doesn't hit well at all. And he is better than advertised as a catcher.
